Women should play best of five sets from fourth round to the finals only at Wimbledon

Since Wimbledon is the jewel of tennis, I think this should be the place where the best of five set format is brought back for women's tennis. I also believe the women should play best of five from the fourth round since Wimbledon is two distinct weeks. The players have the second Sunday off, so start the best of five sets from the fourth round to the finals.

Venus Williams and Anjelique Kerber both said they are willing and ready to play best of five. The WTA CEO Stacey McAlister also said the women are ready.

So come on ITF let the ladies play best of five sets at Wimbledon next year.

I disagree for two reasons:
1. Women can't play quality best of five tennis
2. The rules for each match on a single tournament should be the same. i.e. if 1st round match is best of 3, the final should be best of 3 as well.

1.If they were playing 5 set matches on a regular basis,I think the quality of women's tennis would improve over a long period of time
2.They've already done this in both men's and women's.the WTA tour championships had 5 set finals at one time, and some of the masters series tournaments had 5 set finals

Those are both failed experiments, there was a good reason why are they abandoned and should not be attempted again.

I don't have anything against this, might as well change it up and see how things unfold. My only issue is if the resulting scheduling issues impact the men's matches in anyway. Maybe we should start with a best of 5 final and see how ugly/fun it gets first.

1. Some say they can't play 1 quality set, yet they play 3. Why not 5 then?
2. Pascal Maria makes his own rules in SF/F's, as you know, so this doesn't work. Plus they used to play 5 sets in men's MS1000 finals, nobody died.

wait, Amelie. Are you the actual player?

Nope, it's Martina Hingis trying to sully Mauresmo's good name.

do you not deny graf could easily do this even now?

Graf could (and had) played 5 setters. But we are now in an era of WTA tennis where current world #2 'ran out of gas' after 2 sets, according to her coach. The overall level of fitness on WTA is abysmal right now. Possibly only Wozniacki can play 5 setter today.

totally agreed.

...wait, but not "GOATrena"?

Henin, one of the most athletic players in the last decade was cramping and required IV after capriati match in 2003 USO semi. It was something like 3.5 hours. A laughable time in men's game. If 5 setters were introduced into women's game right now, the retirements and injuries would skyrocket. Like I said, Wozniacki is the only female player that I've never seen tired. Clijsters is up there as well, but she's retired.
