Womens 4th Round: Will venus destroy her sisters dream of the GS

Venus is past her best but she is in good shape again blasting through her draw and serena struggled against watson mostly advancing on pure willpower (like in many matches in the French).

venus is still dangerous on grass but would she dare to destroy her sisters big dream? I know serena would not hesitate a second to do this to her sister (she actually said that she was jealous of venus model like Body when they were younger) but venus does not seem to be a "killer" like herself.

Who will win?

Venus' own dreams are more important to her than Serena's. Maybe not so much in 2002 when she thought she had all the time in the world for titles, but you better bet your ass she's aware this is her last real shot at a Wimbledon title.

On whoever he decided would win of course.

It would be to stupid to give Venus the spoils at this point of time. Eternal glory for Serena against one more QF which may as well stop there itself. Brand Serena instills the fear in competition and is more of a guarantee to win the entire thing than Venus.

But what are the odds?

Not a hope in hell Venus gives 100 percent tomorrow. Might as well be a w/o. First set you might see a token effort. 6-4 or 7-5, something like that, but no way is Venus stopping a CYS in the family. Be realistic.

definitely this. do you seriously think venus would get in the way of her own sister possibly winning a calendar year grand slam?

Venus is her own person with her own life. You'd tank for your brother?

it is different now and then. They are not young players anymore competing to see who is better. right now they are both towards the end of their careers and venus is going ok but serena is steamrolling everything in sight. In this case I dont see why she would value a last hurrah for herself more than a potential CYGS and greater claim to GOATdom for her sister. I would certainly do the same for my brother in such a situation.

Because that's the exact reason she's still playing. She's not going to blow her best chance. Serena will probably win, but it will be because she played the better match.

Well okay, the proof will be in the pudding, I guess. I personally won't be watching it, but it will interesting to read what others thought of Venus' performance come tomorrow night.

Well, right now, she's playing somewhat like the Venus who won Wimbledon 5 times.

Thing is, regardless of how well Venus plays, it's in Serena's hands. Serena does not need Venus to give her the win.

If Venus wins, there won't be one squeak about "the match was fixed"; if Serena wins, that's all you'll be hearing. So Serena might as well go ahead and give it the best shot she can.

Venus will gift Serena a victory. She may take a set on purpose to make it look close but Richard Williams will make sure Serena wins.

Exactly. The family will know a CYGS could mean big $$$ and Venus will make it interesting but like F1, 'team orders' will be to pull over near the end and let Serena through.

Serena can get on with winning the tournament and taking JJ out to lunch for beating the one true threat, Kvitova.

They will make sure it goes 3 sets to make it competitive or a tight set in the second. Either way i can't see how venus wants to destroy her sister's chance at a calendar slam.

The head to head is 14-11 to Serena. I think Venus won their last match. If Venus Serves like she has been and Serena serves like she has been the Venus wins. Buttttt Serena tends to bring her A game to big matches. Either was its fun.

How can players from Federer, Sharapova, to Davenport and others curse at officials and/or mock other players--I guess by your criteria, they are not "classy."
Sharapova is just as bad as Serena. Davenport isn't quite as bad as Serena. Federer is okay. Not particularly classy, but he's better than most.

How was Kvitova the "one true threat" when PK has zero victories over Serena at Wimbledon? In fact, Serena has defeated Kvitova at Wimbledon twice--the second victory when Petra was defending champion.

Don't tell me you are like the TTW's worst stalker/troll who invested everything into Madrid?

Kvitova put up one of the best major final demolitions of all time last year against Bouchard (who at the time was a decent player), in doing so playing better than her 2011 level on grass. With Serena fluffing her lines in 2013 and 2014, not unreasonable to think that, going into 2015, Kvitova had much better grass court momentum than Serena, who doesn't even play warm ups for Wimbledon. Add in the Madrid match, and I'm probably not the only one who thought Kvitova would be the only decent match for Williams were they to have met in this year's final. Kvitova could potentially take the racket out of Williams' hand on a good day on this surface. A Radwanska or a Wozniacki on the other hand...

Williams could still lose this Wimbledon, but I think it would have to be before the final now, looking at who's left and where.

Depends on the player. They rooted for Fed year after year when he was on his 5 year Wimbledon tear.

If a defending champ cannot go for a record, then the crowd will usually be against him / her unless player is British. Kvitova cannot catch up to Serena's 20 slams, so crowd cheered for JJ for an upset.

I did not say SW was going to win, but my point is that those TTW stalker/haters' assumption about Kvitova being a threat to SW at this major (and some grass court wonder) was not based on facts, when their history at the event is not in PK's favor. Moreover, the same stalker/haters harped on Madrid as the end-all in their H2H, yet when it comes to the rest of the H2H--which is in SW's favor...no comment, of course.

Serena serves way better, has way better stamina. Even if it goes to 3 sets, Serena will win.

well serena also serves better than heather watson and almost lost to her. venus is past her best but still better on grass than heather watson. if serena Plays like she did against watson and venus gives an honest effort serena could lose this.

there is no debate that serena is greater than venus but we also know that serena has lost to much lesser Player than even current venus in the past when she had off days (even in her FO win she had several of near losses to inferior Players and barely got out of the jam). serena is not invincible in the Moment and venus could take Advantage if she is in there 100% mentally.

Serena was never in danger in that match. Serena was toying with the poor gal. Heather is 23 and slamless and is not known to have achieved anything significant.

God are you actually still using bouchard as a barometer to measure how good petra played. Any decent top ten who wasn't injured would have destroyed her in that final. I didn't even see anything special in the way kvitova played. She just played solid and bouchard had the biggest cakewalk to the final. Most sane tennis supporters who didn't believe in the hype of bouchard knew she was going to get destroyed in the final.
Not to mention kvitova is not even a sure thing on grass as well. Nearly lost to an aging venus who was 2 points away from knocking kvitova out last year.
And your honestly believe petra played against a serena that was playing well at madrid? Haha delusional. Everyone in their right mind knows serena is a better claycourter than kvitova.
Serena lost 6-0 6-2 to halep. Yet you still don't see any halep fans say serena was playing well that day.

Just wondering Man of steel, is there any match that Serena's lost in recent times, or indeed ever, where you felt she actually played at a high level and her opponent on the day was simply too good? You'll forgive me for saying so but you don't half come out with a lot of excuses for your favourite player.

Serena Vs Vika cinci and serena vs vika at doha

Yes, that is what I think realistically. If a player will stop Serena from the possibility of a CYGS, it is hard to see how Venus would be the one to do it. It seems naïve to me. I think Azarenka would have a slightly better shot and she is not a blood relation whose family would benefit from the Serena CYGS money machine. Clearly the Williams sisters support their entire family.
