Women's volleyball vs Women's basketball...

I consider myself a progressive, open-minded guy, especially in the macro sense.

But let me indulge that micro/ID part of my mind for a sec...

Someone please explain why women volleyball players look so much different (better IMO) than women basketball players o_O (on the highest, most competitive end of the spectrum like in the Olympics).

the volleyball players are the best looking women (overall) in the Olympics time after time. I mean many are just beautiful while at the same time being athletic, tall, and strong.

Basketball players; not so much...

Basketball beyond the recreational level is a FULL-CONTACT sport. Therefore, greater upper body strength, more intensity and toughness are required . Nothing against V-ball. But I've played against female B-ballers that were tougher than the toughest guys I've ever met. I'm talking gals that would elbow you in the face, ribs, balls...anything to get an advantage.

When you play against GOOD females in basketball, you forget very quickly that they're girls. They lay into you, clog up your work space, suffocate your handle and make life a living nightmare! I don't care if it's a 10 model-looking chick (Elena Delle Donne, for example). Once that ponytail is up sh1t gets real!

The uniforms. Volleyball has the butt hugging shorts and tops, bball has the baggy shorts and tops.

so basically they're more 'manly'...

i wouldn't say they're more athletic, because competitive volleyball requires plenty of power/strength and perhaps even to be in better shape than basketball does. on avg they probably even perform higher 'ups' than basket-ballers.

so on athleticism, i would hold them on par with one another; if not give the volleyball players a slight edge.

i think, perhaps, girl athletes that have the height for the two sports (holding everything else equal) will start to separate themselves by how masculine they are/act with the more masculine preferring basketball and the more stereotypically feminine going towards volleyball (overall). which could account for their overall differences in appearance as a whole.

The body-on-body contact is what makes basketball a more physically-demanding sport. A volleyball player is gonna get winded way faster playing basketball than a basketball player will playing volleyball. When played at a legitimate level, it's almost like full-contact fighting. I've played against guys who were 6' 8'' and nearly 300lbs. It's like trying to box out a gorilla.

Hair - bball, as far as possible out of the picture. Vball, ponytails, but often down and adorned. (ribbons, etc.)

Jewelry - rules often prohibit, so usually even, but sometimes not, in which case vball player will wear earrings, but bball player tend not to b/c of getting them torn out scrapping for a ball, etc.

Makeup - virtually nonexistent in bball. quite common in vball.

upper body muscle and overall weight. - really necessary in bball, for pounding the boards and muscling in for a shot. vball - like track and field high jumpers, thinner is better most of the time.

outfits - spandex is figure flattering. hip hop loose, low shorts and baggy tops are not. One time the Australian Women's team had some unis that looked more like vball unis and it was a dramatic improvement.

bball is a MUCH more demanding sport, physically, and there is CONSTANT rough physical contact. There is NO physical contact with the other team in vball.

Yeah, I know, this sounds sexist, misogynistic, blah blah blah. But it is not a description of what should be, it is a description of what is.

as if we (or I) need more proof: Taylor Cole was a volley ball player in high school.
