Cuban rum went so well with Coca Cola that the Castro rebels in the 50's named the cocktail "Cuba Libre."

Coca Cola's formula was created by a Southern gentleman named John Pemberton in the post-Civil War era to help with pain he endured from a saber wound to his chest suffered during battle. The first versions contained wine as well as extract from coca leaves but temperance laws enacted in Atlanta forced Pemberton to make a non-alcoholic version. No such action was necessary for the omission of the cocaine until the early 20th century, long after Pemberton sold his patent to Asa Candler and eventually died in poverty, still addicted to the opium he was trying to avoid using by switching to his magic elixir. Candler paid $550 for the formula. Pretty tidy profit, no?

In Oslo, people like to wander around city sidewalks with vodka in their Coke bottles...

Oslo always reminds me of Asolo, a small city in Veneto, Italy that had a four-tiered wooden horshoe theater from the 18th century. Rather than destroying the old structure, it was dismantled piece by piece and crated for storage. The Ringling family of circus fame, who wintered in Sarasota FL, in conjunction with the State of Florida, acquired the materials and reassembled the theater in the late 1950's. It became the home of the largest repertory theater company in the Southeast and FSU offers theater students in their MFA program a full curriculum towards their advanced degree.

Jim Morrison left FSU to attend UCLA's film program. He was arrested in Tallahassee and later in Miami.

Ingredients for young stringertom opening Doors of perception and then having cell doors closed behind him:

    1. Place cosmopolitan globetrotting teenagertom in Tallahassee in 1968, bored and again a new kid in town.

    2. Discover group of other "outside the envelope" teenagers at an otherwise stodgy high school.

    3. Receive a driver's license and access to the family car on weekend nights.

    4. Take recommendations of another impressionable teenager to ingest rather than "burn and breathe" the asthma treatment powdered product "Asthmador" for a "far out high." (He went to ER!)

    5. Try the stuff in a big cup of Coca Cola at a FSU campus side hangout called "The Sweet Shop."

    6. Somehow separate from the group, drive home a good long way with many turns and then drive away again to park on the high school campus.

    7. Wind up very briefly in a City of Tallahassee jail cell many hours later after behaving rather bizarrely and being observed on an otherwise quiet Saturday morning one-half mile away from home.

I think I'm remembering more about that night right now than I comprehended in real time nearly 50 years ago.

    Lapped! Kapow!

Did Jim Morrison remember the night he "lost" his Ford Mustang the next morning?

Omarosa got seriously trolled by GMA's Robin Roberts in the wake of her "resignation" from Uncle Donnie's team. The promise of a "tell all" book for profit had Robin give her the "Bye, Felicia!" treatment
