Working out the contact point for 2hd backhand

I am a lefty hitting with a 2hd backhand (left hand continental, right hand SW) and I just want to see what everyone's thoughts are on the proper contact point for hitting the ball.

I suppose it depends on the height of the ball? But generally speaking where/when should you aim to hit the ball.

I have great timing now on my forehand as I've been doing lots of drills on it with the ball machine but I've neglected the backhand and now I'm trying to get that working.

With my forehand I am hitting it to the side out in front and it works great but not sure what the norm is for the backhand.

about there ^

Well, the hitting zone for 2hb is generally right in front of your upper torso. How you grip the racquet, the shot you are trying to hit, your body's structure, few other things, will make your hitting zone slightly different than others who hit 2hb. When I hit 2hb, I just hit the ball without trying to think spacially where the racquet will impact the ball. I just take the racquet back, hit throught the ball, and impact just happens to be mostly in front of my upper torso.

I found the easiest way to groove a 2hb is hitting against a practice wall. Start slow by starting close to the wall focusing on hitting the ball somewhat high on the wall at low power. Try to hit as many good shots in a row since the objective of this drill is to get your hand/arms to work together and accustomed to hitting that 2hb. As your consistency improves, step back from the wall and start hitting with more power but not so much that you start to lose consistency. Also, good footwork is a little bit more critical for 2hb than 1hb. Stay light on your feet, move around a lot, and maneuver to position your body so the ball eventually ends up in your hitting zone.

Racket parallel to the ground. In line with your front foot. Hitting arm straight. Waist level or slightly higher. Watch it here:

what is a 2 handed-backhand?

it's basically a forehand produce by your non dominant hand with your dominant hand controling the trajectory of your stroke.

so a good way to develop your 2 handed-backhand is to hit a few forehands with your non dominant hand (your right hand in your case).
at first, you'll feel a little awkward because you have to adopt the forehand stance and simply because you're using the non dominant side of your body.

after you get a better feel of it, try hitting your backhand like you normally would. see if it helped you.
