Workout

Currently I use resistance bands for my workout using exercises off of the USTA website. I do the strength training every other day. Then on the days I am not doing strength training, I do 400 crunches (alt., dbl., rev.) and then 50 back crunches. Every day I do 25 mins of cardio, either the treadmill @ 8.5 mph for 25 mins or the bike at 20 mph for 25 mins. I have been doing cardio every single day for the past year and a half, but I just started with the strength training. Do you think that my workout is lacking in the area of strength training since I only use resistance bands and no dumbells. Also do you see any problems with my workout? Tips are greatly appreciated.

Well the obvious one is you might need to give your body a rest day once or twice a week. Running 7 days a week is not recommended.

Yeah, overtraining can lead to serious injuries over time. Run three times a week and increase your running time by 5 minutes each week. When you get to one hour, then you don't need to increase your running time. I don't know about strength training, but we do run for endurance.

i agree with the 3 days of endurance cardio. but buy a jump rope and learn some plyometrics. you need a strong core and legs for tennis. i would start using some freeweights to gain strength in all other areas. i mostly use resistance bands for rehab but they can give you a good workout. learn how to use free-weigths though and you will make good strides in terms of power. and start light with free weights and learn proper form. check the sites marius has posted at the top of subjects and im sure there will be a good fitness site in there for you.

As another poster notes, your objectives aren't noted, but it's pretty clear you are not into structured training. :)

Define your long term goal, then set a series of short-term target goals to meet. If playing tennis at the highest level possible is your goal then you need to change quite a bit of your training. Get a diary and start keeping track of what you do and WHY. Get a coach or spend two weeks reading the forums here and on the internet generally. Select an approach and give it a try. There are many strength and training gurus out there.
