This means that it's possible for Novak Djokovic to go 13 consecutive months without a top 5 victory and still break Federer's weeks at #1 record.

Big3's most wins over top5 in a season:

1) 2015 Djokovic 16
2) 2011 Djokovic 13
3) 2012 Djokovic 13
When you make a thread so bad that Lew owns you

You got owned by lew, its ok. Everything will be ok, we now you are hurting.
What Djokovic did years ago has nothing to do with the current situation. Wow, Djokovic had 13 top 5 wins in 2012 that won him one whole slam while being owned by Federer, Nadal, and Murray in the rest. 2015 worst year of Nadal's career with Old Fed main competition. Lew's post means jack.

Oh Zverev being rank 6 is sooooo not the same as playing a top 5? Add to that, it was a shorter season. Still he has the record of most top 5 wins in a season

why don't you bring these arguments when Lew tries to manipulate the public opinion with his wins vs #1 and #2 opponents?
or top 10 opponents?

when on so many occasions it was proven with similar arguments, that someone named Fed defeated someone who was say #3 or #11, but on a good run and shortly after the meeting getting into the #1 / #2 or top 10?

enjoy the Lewiscean "statistics" now :)

If my calculations are correct, Djokovic in this Pandemic riddled shorter season had only 2 TOP 5 wins less (4 wins) than Federer in his some of his "most epic" years. Is this correct?
"you" and "calculations" in one sentence?
wow

Still man, even in a pandemic year like this Djokovic is close in the TOP 5 wins department to the Mythical creature known as Peak Fed. Just LOL. :-D:laughing:
He had to play regardless. We could get into all the details of the competition which is what everyone in this thread wants to do. Everyone go back in time to the days where everything was earned. No one wants to face the truth that Djokovic is benefitting big time here. He can go on vacation ffs if he wanted to. Be totally rested and come back with a huge advantage on everyone. No one wants to talk about that though :sneaky:

The 2006: Without the YEC Federer has a striking number of five TOP wins throughout the whole of that mythical year, with three of those coming against David Donut Nalbandian...

What in the name of God was happening back in 2006!? o_O

Djokovic can break the record with next to NO WEAR AND TEAR or winning ways at all where it matters. Plus RESTED and REBOOTED for extending #1 weeks and deep/winning slam runs.

Well, I don't know of many people who have waxed lyrical about Fed's form outside of the slams in 2009.

Plus it's worth looking at the performances that were required to take them down. Look at the performances against Fed in his losses in 2005, for example (yes, even from Donutbandian...). Now look at Djoker winning 7 games against Oldal and 3 games against a lucky loser. Clearly, comparing Peakerer to 33ovic is rather silly, Top 5 wins 'n' all.

Yeah it's silly. Federer was playing 90+ matches back then. Out there traveling, working his tail off week in and week out playing at a much higher level throughout than anyone on tour here for atleast the past 4 seasons. He earned every single bit of it. Djokovic can go lay on the beach or tank to journeyman until he's ready to give it another go.

It is pretty much fact that Djokovic would have had the record already had the tour not stopped
Not 100% fact. Still had to show up and win matches. Still had to put his body on the line and add miles to it. By October and the end of this year who knows what kind of shape Djokovic would have been in? We don't know. He didn't have the option to sit out slams or know in the back of his mind that he could lose early and it wouldn't matter. Not saying he will sit out but you get the point. The option is there. Djokovic could literally take a 4 month vacation right now. Not even show up to Australia and make an assault afterwards with everything behind him. It's ludicrous.

You'd have to be pretty thick to try to make the argument that the pandemic and stoppage was anything but a terrible thing to happen for Djokovic's career, numbers, legacy. It's highly likely he captures more than one slam last season were it a normal schedule.

Did the pandemic make him DQ? No, I don't think so. Did the pandemic make Nadal bagel him? No, I dont think so. As for Wimbledon you never know when Querrey or someone like him is looming around the corner. That's assuming Federer didn't return. There's no way of knowing that either. Federer didn't announce a second surgery until June. Wimbledon was cancelled April 1. If there's no pandemic, how can we be so sure that the change in lifestyle doesn't benefit his knee? That's right we don't know. What I do know is that Djokovic can stroll his way to a record and not kill himself doing it which only makes him more dangerous afterwards. I do agree that the pandemic hurt his image if that's what you meant btw.

What WEAR and TEAR for Federer back then. What pressure of keeping the #1. The guy was "fighting" against effing Fattbandian, Ljubicic and Clay boy Nadal in some of those years. The guy literally could have been sitting on his couch for 9 months ala Ashley Barty and would still finish the year at #1. At least Djokovic has Nadal and Thiem constantly on his tails. So please, don't. ;)

I can understand why Novak's fans are disappointed as he had a good chance to win Wimb and get to 18. But It helped him in the case of ranking. Nadal could reach Wimb F and again 480 points something that happened for Novak at RG. Plus, Nadal was in great form before the break. He was on fire. AT LEAST, he would have a better clay season since he had many points to grab in clay tourneys like Madrid, MC or even Barcelona and without Roger he could probably do ok in hard tourneys as well. I just want to say in a normal season the gap between #1 and #2 would probably be narrowed.

For half of those 13 months there was no tennis to begin with, and Djokovic didn't gain weeks when tennis was suspended, so I think there really isn't a problem.

OTOH Novak was in quite bad form before the pandemic. He was quite lucky with the pandemic that he had time to recoup, regroup and gain some cheap undeserved points and #1 weeks during the course of the Covid break. What a lucky guy...

Novak did NOT gain any weeks at #1 or ranking points during the Covid break,

Ohh, didn't know that. But still he was slumping heavily before the Pandemic break. Corona helped him to preserve his #1 from the rampaging assaults of Nadal and Thiem. That's why I've said that he was quite lucky.

It sure is! Fact IS that Novak earned over 6,000 ranking points in 2020, which is far more than the player closest to him, Thiem.
Both Masters wins were weak diluted fields where Djokovic never faced a top 10 player. He was still challenged at the fake Cincy Masters only for both guys to fold like a cheap tent. I fully expected him to win everything during that time on HC. Not because he was unstoppable but because of the comp either being inferior or choking on cue. No Nadal, Federer, Wawrinka. Then Rome where the two most in form players (Thiem & Zverev) couldn't come because of stupid stacked schedule while Nadal hadn't played in 5-6 months. Easy pickings via superior skill or choking.

Nobody cares about what you think when the numbers are there and Djokovic is the most dominant player by far. It's his tour atm and no one is close. Deal with it

No doubt Novak was not in his peak form during all of 2020, but the situation was the same for all players. Players chose their schedules, not Novak or anyone else. Fact is though that before the Covid break Noval won the AO, beating Federer, then Thiem in the finals. He also won the ATP Cup, beating Nadal in the finals. Even though it took Novak 5 sets to beat Thiem in the AO final, still he won. He then won Dubai. After the break, in his supposed lousy form he won 2 Masters, and reached the FO final. Had he not been defaulted, he may have won the USO. No doubt Nadal and Novak are no longer in their peak form, but like Federer at their age, both could still win more important tournaments or perhaps a slam or two.
