How aboot dem Canadians, eh?

Maybe you're confusing Canada with North Dakota from the dialogue in Fargo but no one here says that. lol.

Canada hammered Latvia. I almost felt sorry for them but am pleased our boys started the championship off with a bang! I am very much looking forward to the game between Canada and the U.S. on New Year's Eve. It won't be as big of a bloodbath but Canada will win......again.

For anyone who wants the link:

Oh, and in case anyone doesn't already know, this will be Canada's SIXTH (record-breaking) consecutive year as champions!!!!!!

USA is gonna take you down. So enjoy your wins well you can.:)

Haha. We will send you back across the border Mav, just wait (and we don't even need a lucky loonie this time). We own hockey. You guys have your McDonald's, your tasteless Starbuck's and whatever that chain of pancake houses is called - and we have our hockey. Bring it on!!

And you know you can't win in a smack-talkin' showdown with me my Southern Belle.

Thats a first. Being called a southern belle is a first.

And just because my country is greater than yours doesnt mean you have to get hostile. We are the better team. Even if we lose were the better team because we dont have to say that we are from Canada.:)

Huh? Who won the last five years in a row? How exactly are you the better team my little hothouse lily? lol. Your country is not greater, just louder, but we'll see who does the braggin' in three days. Don't worry though...your team may have a chance at slugging it out for the bronze. Ya never know. ;)

Whats with calling me cute names. First southern belle then little hothouse lily. Whats up with that?

And its a known fact that USA is better.

Sure it is...to Americans. Now me in a competitive state is not an attractive thing, I warn you now. I can trash talk anyone and this perhaps is a subject we should avoid. I wouldn't want to publicly embarass you - of course you will cheer for your countrymen and I respect that. Just remember they are facing a team that was raised in a cultural atmosphere of the sport and they live and breathe it. All right, no more nicknames.....for now.

Your competitive side is fine. You dont have an unattractive side. I got thick skin but thats just funny that you kept giving me little names.:)

But seriously we will be competitive with Canada. it wont be a 16-0 thrashing. If i was Latvia I would just go home.

Nah, we may have buried them in that game but we respect their heart and determination. They fought to get here and have a right to play it out and I think they're great - some potential there for sure. Like I said earlier, Canada vs. US won't be a bloodbath but I believe they'll play dirtier against each other than with any other team and that it will be a good game. Let the best (and most Northern) team win.

Overrated tournament, but still fan to catch a few matches at this time of year while having a stiff drink.

^ I disagree. There is some really fun hockey to watch in this tournament, particularly if you're cheering for the best team; which we all know (other than wishful thinkers) that it is the host nation.

If Canada had 2 teams, there Second team could even beat any team. There was so many good players who didn't make it, in fact the Leading Scorer in the Western Hockey League didn't even make it!

8-2 against Slovakia!!

Im looking forward to the match against the States tomorrow, might be a nail biter.

Even Canadians are bored by the blowouts. Although the match with the USA salvaged things a little bit.

That one had me on a meltdown (literally). I went from missing half the first period... to utter disbelief at how poorly the team played for the first two periods... to annoyance and frustration when they were down two (and let the US score not one, but two goals on the penalty plays)... to excitement when it was tied... to edge of my seat madness at the shootout.

Bah Cyborg, you don't speak for all Canadians here. "A little bit"? While I agree there is no excitement involved in a skunk whoopin' this is hardly a ho-hum tournament. The US goalie is freaking good and I wait for the next game in anticipation. Good job boys...bring her home!!!!

Great thread! Sweden is making Canada crap their pants, on neutral ground Sweden will win 7/10 games but in Canada its a 50/50 chance

There are always blowouts when facing the weaker teams. I was referring to the game with more competitive teams though.

Uhmmm get this straight pal: No one, and I mean no one makes Canada 'crap their pants' as you so eloquently put it. Sweden is a fine team as is Russia and USA. It will be competitive.

I was not impressed with Canada's play in last nights game. Too many giveaways. How they managed to pull off another come-from-behind win is absolutely incredible. Canada is all about passion and intensity. It does not always make for the most technical sound hockey but it wins a lot of clutch games.

I said it's an overrated tournament. It's not a bad tournament at all.

I understand that you were not impressed by the Canadians- thats why you should have watched Sweden vs Finland instead.

Dont listen to Canadians when it comes to hockey. They think they are the only ones that play. USA had them on the ropes and let them off the hook. Im not saying that they are not good but they are not invincible like the Canadians on this board would have you believe.

No Mav, we know that others play (otherwise there would be no IIHF) - we just know that we are the best. I like your spirit MOP. :)

Thanx- I like it to :)

Sweden has been runner-ups 2 years in a row but this year the team is insane!! We beat the Checzs 10-1! Finland 7-1! Russia 4-1!!
We have the best line of the whole tournament (Paajarvi-Pettersson) and the best goalie (Markstrom)

Oh - and we are the reigning Olympic-champions aswell.
AND a Swede leads the goal/assist league in the NHL (Sedin)

Any questions!? Punks!

Nah I saw part of that game and it was a blowout. I didn't say I wasn't impressed with the Canadian team btw, I said I wasn't impressed with their play; at least until the end that is. They did pull it off. It's always a good sign when you can still pull off a key win even when you're playing poorly for 2/3 of the game.

Exactly CC. We are the best even though others put in a good effort and sometimes manage to win here and there. No one said that Canada will win be a sure-thing in this tournament. Being the best and displaying it on the ice are 2 different things. I hope they get their act together for the semi final.

One thing i like about Canada though- They put the tournament in the Canadian heartland- Saskatchewan

Unfortunately, a last minute dirty hit by a Swiss player took out one of our best players. Hopefully the rest of the team will use this as motivation for the final.

Up and down game. Looked mostly down for Canada especially with the weak goal tending tonight. But they showed they have a ton of heart by coming back again from a 2 goal deficit in the 3rd. I didn't believe they would manage to come back this time but they fought and took the game to o/t. Too bad they could not finish up things in o/t. Was very close but overall the USA played a more consistent game. It sucks but that's they both could not win.

I HATE SUDDEN DEATH!!! The Americans played very well this year and I am not going to say a negative thing about them (although the same can't be said for the blind refs). The Canadians need to learn from this and allow the players time to play together before the tournament as the Americans did.

Good tournament, great heart, disappointing end but we can't blame the U.S. Cheers all. Too bad none of you couldn't partake in the baked crab dip I made served with tortilla chips, crackers, celery and carrots.

All right...who's gonna start the 2010 Olympic hockey thread now?
