Any idea when they kick back in? Slam No. 18 looks likely at the USO but want to see Djokovic close in on the weeks at No. 1 record as well.

Rafa won't play Cinci and USO.
He can't gain any point from Rome and USO.
And indoor hard is his worst surface.

I think Nole has an huge shot to stay #1 until, at least, next AO.
I don't think they will count weeks after the first tournament(Cinci), so from 31th August to 1st February. It's 23 weeks. 282+23=305.
If he can maintain the #1 at AO he will break Federer record. And if he will lost the #1 at 2021 AO(Or ATP Cup), he hasn't much to defend in IW and Miami.

I'm hopeful he can break the record in the first half of 2021.

Week record is a done deal. Novak probably has his aim at 400 weeks at the end of his career. I feel the more hatred he receives more fuel he gets to crash more records.

Man, this is music to my ears! :-D (y) Based on the information you have provided, it appears breaking Federer's weeks at No. 1 record is just a formality now for Djokovic!

I hope @Jonesy is right and Djokovic gets to 400. But I'll be happy if he just gets the record and stops at 320 weeks or thereabouts!

Djokovic has played it 14 times, and he's only won it 3 times.
And he's just come off an AO Final where he trailed 2-sets-to-1 before winning 6-4 5th Set over Thiem, and there is no doubt Thiem can beat Djokovic at slams, because he's already done it twice.
Thiem is rising, while Djokovic is falling.
Even if they played the US Open in Australia, there would be doubts about Djokovic, because if Thiem didn't have to endure a 76 46 76 76 challenge from Nadal.......we'd be calling Thiem the 2020 AO Champ.

Wow. With Nadal not playing Cincy and Madrid cancelled, seems like it’s pretty much in the bag for Novak. I suppose an early loss at the Australian could hand the ranking back to Nadal, but a) I don’t imagine that’ll happen and b) he’d still be super close and could pick up points through Wimbledon to take it back.

Thiem would be the best player of 2020 if he wins the US Open, because we know he's making the French Open Final (and losing to Nadal).
So Thiem in 2020 would have these results:
AO = Final
USO = Won
RG = Final
Can Djokovic beat Thiiem at the US Open?
Logic suggests Djokovic cannot.
He only just survived Thiem at the AO, so very little chance of Djokovic surviving New York.
Djokovic's only hope is if Thiem withdraws from the US Open.

Yes. From what I've read here, it's almost a done deal. Nadal can't win anything in Rome and RG, MC and Madrid were cancelled, China tournaments cancelled as well, and Djokovic (who is already 350 points up) can gain a lot in the USO and in Cincinnati. Unless his completely fails in NY and Nadal wins the WTA finals in London, it's pretty much in the pocket until January.

Machan ... no Nadal or Federer but most importantly for Djokovic, no Wawrinka! (y) Djokovic will stroll to No. 18! :)

Djokovic struggled like crazy to win the AO Final in 5 sets, so that means he won't win the US Open if he has to play Thiem....

Well nothing is a guarantee but he's the favorite I'd say.

The problem with Thiem is he will choke the final away. No surprises there :)

Errr ... no. It means that if even after playing bad and struggling he managed to win, he needs to up his level only a little to remain favorite.

What is Machan?
Machan ... the word Machan comes from the Tamil (South Indian) language. The word Machi is just another form of Machan, with the exact same meaning. In real world application, these words have a literal meaning and a colloquial meaning.

The literal meaning is brother-in-law(wife’s Brother). Colloquially, very close friends are also referred to as machan or machi because friends are also considered as part of extended family. As this word signifies closeness between friends, it is almost universally used throughout the state of Tamil Nadu in India among both college going kids as well as older people in all professions. I have several friends that still call me that :-D

Any questions, please let me know.

Is it basically like an English person saying "mate" ?

As a Fed supporter I’ve already accepted that both his records of slams and weeks at number one are gonna be passed. Rafa passes him in slams (maybe Nole) and Djokovic will have more weeks at number one. Deep down I’m a bit salty but of course they fully deserve it as didn’t get there just by being lucky

Pardon my ignorance or if I am hurting any sensibilities, referring someone as Machan per your definition, to me, means I am screwing your sister.

Except I'm not a fan of Thiem.
But like everyone else I saw Thiem beat Djokovic twice at Roland Garros, and very nearly at the AO Final.
Its Thiem's time.

nah, watch the match again.

novak is in control in the first set.

then, as the second set progresses, he clearly looks more sluggish. And that is only magnified in the third set.

he correctly gets medical advice telling him his symptoms are from dehydration. that‘s easy to happen when you are playing in the heat at that level. He corrects that and steamrolls Thiem in the final two sets. Thiem had 8 breakpoints against Novak in sets 2 and 3, broke Novak 4 times and was only broken once by Novak. In contrast in sets 4 and 5 Thiem only had 3 break opportunities, didn’t convert any, and was broken twice.

absent dehydration Thiem would have likely lost in straight sets
