At 5:15 this evening (uk time) two of my club members, one of whom I coach, broke the Guinness World Record for Longest Tennis Match with an astonishing 38 hours, 10 minutes and 12 seconds in order to raise money for Breaththrough Breast Cancer.

A superhuman effort by both guys who thouroughly deserve the award.

Was it a five set match or was it just the two guys hitting for 38 hours? Just want to know, it's still otherwise a commendable effort for a good cause

^^^ yep, the Guinness rules state they are allowed a 5 minute break every hour and that's it, other than that they played solid for the 38 hours.

@r2473 - eh?

Yes, the attempt has been submitted to Guinness, the new book is published in a few weeks so they left it late as possible to try to make sure they were the holders when the book goes to print. The process is rigourous for Guinness registration, we had to have independant witness' verify the whole 38 hours, umpires, ball kids and timing officials for the whole event - couldn't have done it without all their support.

And yes, my guy did win! 50-16 in sets!!!

After watching the local boys hit 36hrs, 36min and 36 sec via a live stream, I have an even better appreciation for how much of an effort it is to pull this off....congratulations to them!
