Discuss these horribly over-rated acts and vote now!
Well, considering there's an almost infinite number of bands that are worse than REM and RHCP.....how about "neither"?
Both are great bands.
This x1000. There are thousands of worse acts.
Heycal, you are an authority on music. What bands are good?
Like them both!
So maybe Elvis isnt dead after all.. has just changed his name into the OPs.
Wow, why the hate, they are great bands.
Tell us what are some of your favorite bands?
yea rhcp is one of the best out there
both great acts.
sure, REM have kind of dropped the ball since the early days, but worst band ever? seriously?
Can we do a "worst troll ever" thread next?
You misspelled "Poison."
I think what has happened here is that our man can't spell anything, and is thus left with band names that are acronyms.
no excuse for not plumping for NKOTB, really, but a good enough reason to avoid Nickelback (certainly a contender) and the excruciatingly horrible 'Eddy Current Suppression Ring'
RHCP's are awesome... Why wouldn't you like them?
Love REM. We've got practically all of their albums around the house. I'm not too fond of the peppers though. They just don't have a sound that I find very appealing.
Too many to name. It's much easier to name the two most over-rated bands of all time: The nearly unlistenable R.E.M., and the unlistenable Red Hot Chili Peppers.
so you would genuinely suggest that Nickelback or Creed are actually NOT contenders for worst bands of all time?
and can you honestly listen to the opening verses of 'Under the Bridge' or 'The One I love' (just examples) and declare them 'unlistenable'?
Sorry, but I think you are trolling.
Neither of these acts are on my all-time favourite list, but that doesn't mean I don't like them..
What are your top favorite bands? Then we can discuss your bad taste in music. My sister just saw the RHCP 2 days ago and Flea ftw
No, he actually misspelled "Neil Young" and "The Rolling Stones".
Meatloaf is off his loaf.
If you think REM and RHCP are the worst bands ever, echoing previous posts, I'd love to know who your top bands are too then.
BTW FWIW FYI... John Frusciante > legend.
REM were decent once up a time but yeah the RHCP's are shocking.
Man... RHCP and REM are like Mozart compared to the Black Eye Peas and Lady Gaga.
I used to listen to both bands when on their prime
now all their songs sound the same
BUT: live RHCP is something to see before dying really...
And REM during the mid nineties had that weird rock sound I like very much
both bands play real music when compared to the crap we have to bear at the moment (adele, lana del shiBe, black eye bullphit, etc)
These 2 bands can play.
Boys, don't get your panties in a wad. I'm not considering these Nickelback and Dimehead or whoever flash-in-the-pan bands you kids listen to. Don't even know them. When I say "worst band ever" I clearly mean long-running, mystifyingly critically acclaimed acts.
And for the record, the correct answer here is "Chili Peppers". While both bands are horrible, just horrible, Chili Peppers are slightly more horrible. R.E.M. managed to fumble out one excellent song in their decades-long reign of terror ("Man on the moon") and maybe one other listenable tune, while the Chili Peppers are just 100% unremittingly unbearable.
Gotta listen to the early to mid 80's REM, Heycal. Tunes like "Radio Free Europe", "(Don't go back to) Rockville", "Fall on Me", "Finest Worksong", "I Believe", "It's the End of the World as we Know It", "The One I Love", "Orange Crush"...alternative/College rock at its finest. I agree that their popular stuff during the 90's isn't the best, IMHO.
RHCP live are fantastic. Last time I saw them was Coachella '07 and they still had it. You don't even like "Soul to Squeeze" or "Under the Bridge"? Great songs, even for someone who hates the Peppers. 'Californication' is a great album but 'Mother's Milk' in '89 introduced me to the band and is a sentimental fave.
You want OVERRATED?
BAM!: The Beatles
This post has my approval.
I love The Beatles but agree. I'll "one-up" you RE The Beatles...Bam!!! Oasis is better than The Beatles.
Ok, music guru almighty. if you say so... lol.
They're just a Beatles parody band.
The Beatles are, and will forever be, the greatest, most influential, groundbreaking, and long lasting band ever. Period. Their music seems to be inherent in nature, and they have influenced EVERY band that came after them and EVERY band that will ever come.
all you need is love
Sometimes parodies trump the originals.
This is one of those urban myths it seems, old opinions that get latched on to. I often see the phrase bandied around.
They're anything but a Beatles parody band.
I disagree with this so much...
The Beatles were a very good band, but the fact that they have so many people calling them the "best band ever" is just ridiculous to me. Most groundbreaking? Inherent in nature? What?
They're influential and long lasting, but as Kevin said, often times parodies can be better than the original.
OP most likely enjoys insane clown posse and fall out boy.
This boring statement is why I'm tired of the Beatles. In Britain we seem to have got ourselves into a state where it's almost an obligation to ask him to perform that dirge Hey Jude at the end of stuff. Had our Olympic opening ceremony not been awesome, I would have been more annoyed than I was to see them follow up that cool montage with the fireworks with old **** face.
Keep listening to the Beatles and one day you'll understand.
I'll stick to relevant artists like PJ Harvey and Neil Young instead of boring Scousers.
The Beatles are not over-rated in any means. They did amazing songs and were ridicously ahead of their time. Doing things like "You Never Give Me Your Money", "Strawberry Fields...", "Tomorrow Never Knows", "A Day in The Life" and "I Am The Walrus" in the 60's shows how good they are. Lennon is a ****in' genius. And Paul and Harrison fantastic musicians too.
In terms of being ahead of one's time, and genius, The Beach Boys are totally under rated by comparison to the Beatles.
Brian Wilson was an awesome musician and song writer. He was one of the first to use multi-tracking for backing vocals. His production abilities were incredible. Awesome talent.
sigh these things always get into a beatles argument..
OP, you're an idiot, simple as that.
I would have to vote for SuperTramp.
But, I fear tomorrow I'll be crying.
A bit of confusion here. We will make it your epitaph.
RHCP became the Aerosmith of Generation X. "Under the Bridge" is our "Dream On"; the album Blood Sugar Sex Magik was a cornerstone drunksexytime album during the grunge-era. Then they discovered a second stage career with melodic sing-alongs that's carried them through to this day.
I think most people would agree REM was never the same after Bill Berry left. Except for "Automatic for the People" (can't go wrong with the Nightswimming, Man on the Moon, Find the River ), I prefer the pre-Scott Litt era.
I personally voted for peppers here. I don't know anything the peppers sang, but REM I think had a nice sad old song, if I am not mistaken - something about a deer?
Please, The Beatles learned everything they needed to know from Brian Wilson, who in turn learned it all from Phil Spector. Those are the real legends, Paul McCartney's not fit to wash Brian's socks.
Everybody knows Zappa/The Mothers are the greatest.
