We talk a lot about their best performances but what about their worst?

Fed: RG 08' Final, Miami 09' SF, Miami 11' SF or perhaps against Volandri in Rome 07' come to mind.

Nadal: Chennai Final 08', Couple of matches at the WTF's in 09' come to mind not just one match but just a terrible tournament as a whole probably his worst. Not as many standout terrible performances from Rafa due to his type of game in general and not committing as many UE's as Roger, but most of his bad matches came at the end of 09' after returning from the knee injury i suppose. Like losing to Cilic 6-3 6-1 in Beijing.

Any more standout matches?

Indian Wells '08 for Federer against Mardy Fish. That was about as bad as I've seen him move since he reached the top of the game.

Nadal vs Tsonga AO 2008 - Not sure if this qualifies as a "bad" performance by Nadal, Tsonga did own him, but still to go down that easily at a GS is unlike Nadal.

Nadal fought hard in that match. Tsonga was just way too good on the day and would have beaten anybody with ease. One of Nadal's worst performances, in fact one of the worst matches I've ever seen, was actually a Nadal win, Nadal's win against Almagro at the 2009 US Open.

This was incredibly bad.

The score was actually 6-1,6-3 and tbh it doesn't to justice to how little Rafa was in this match. The first set was over in something like 20 minutes and Nadal only came alive a bit towards the end of the match. This match could have easily been a double breadstick or even with a bagel thrown in if Cilic focused more. Marin came out strong and focused and Rafa looked like he was still asleep.

The worst Nadal match I've ever seen has to go to either his match with Almagro in USO 2009 or against Verdasco in last year's Cincy. There are others to be sure but these were actually painful to watch on so many levels.

Maybe it's because it's the freshest in my memory bank, but Nadal against fed in Indian Wells last week was just awful. Fed didn't play lights out or anything, nadal just played horribly.

Off the top of my head:

Nadal: WTF 2009. He lost every single one of his matches!

Federer: 2008 FO final v Nadal. He lost 1-6,3-6,0-6. It was his worst ever beat-down in a slam final!

Personally, I'd say that for Nadal it's any time he loses to Federer, but for Roger it's every time he loses to Andy Murray.

Nadal vs Garcia-Lopez @ Bangkok 2010: 2-6, 7-6(3), 6-3 for break point lols.
Nadal converted 2/26 BPs whilst GGL had one BP chance the whole match which he converted in the third set to win.
Not the biggest beatdown and a relatively unimportant match, but still crazy to watch. Wish I could find set by set numbers...Nadal probably went something like 0/20 on BPs after the first set. Never seen somebody squander so many consecutively.

To be honest, I think Garcia Lopez was insanely clutch in that match and not just Nadal squandering BP left and right.

It kinda went hand in hand.

If you watched just the first set you would think GGL lucky to even win 3 games in the next set since Rafa rolled on him pretty bad. GGL showed some cool BH but that was pretty much it. In sets 2 and 3 Rafa had plenty of chances as well(I remember I lost count of the 30-30,40-30 he had on his opponent's serve, nevermind the bp's from the first set) but let's just say he treated them very lightly.

GGL pounced at the end of set 2 in the TB and got that break early on and never let up. Rafa probably thought he would sail to a easy victory midway throught the second whereas by that point GGL was desperate to stay in the match and just clicked. Dude had ONE breakpoint and he converted it whereas Nadal squandered 24 bp overall. Really really crazy for any player, even moreso when we are talking about a guy like Nadal.
