Worst presser ever

I can't see anything wrong with this presser, and note: I'm not a fan of hers.

Of course she is severely disappointed, and who wouldn't be a bit cranky in such a situation? She has all the right in the world to refuse to answer an ultimately stupid question.
I've often thought it to be rather cruel, to force a player who's just lost an important match, to immediately hold a presser thereafter.
I'm pretty sure they'd all rather go directly to their hotels, to empty the minibar - or perhaps destroy some furniture along the way. I know I would! :D

What do you expect ? Honestly, there's nothing interesting coming out of these stupid postmatch interviews ever - "How incredible/disappointed do you feel after that win/loss?" - you always get athletes stumbling around like idiots because the question is so stupid. If you got that close to winning a slam you should be salty, at least I'd be.

I don't really believe her when she says she felt no pressure though.

Thats a softball question that everyone gets. Its just a cue for the player to start talking about how well or badly they are taking it. Its one of the easiest most predictable questions in a presser and usually players just go with "yeah..very disapointed" blah bla. Serena's answer was basically...too disappointed to talk about it.

Well said. But Serena is so unlikable. If she was only better at being such a phony.

Nothing wrong with presser other than it's brief and Serena had to make a quick exit. She was very complimentary about Vinci and her efforts. I'm slightly confused by this thread to be honest, and Serena Williams is the player I like the second least on the WTA tour.

For me, Serena was gracious in defeat and she said how she felt; she has done her best and lost against a better player on the day. Her response to disappointment question is excellent one and conveys more than any further talk about this matter would. This was an excellent presser of a great champion.

How is this interview arrogant? She flat out said she wasn't playing bad, and that Vinci played amazing, and deserves the win. Of course she's going to be disappointed. Wouldn't anyone else be? She isn't required to answer those stupid questions, especially "Are you disappointed?".

Yes she is contractually required by the WTA to answer questions, even after a defeat.

Every other player does it with fair-play but she just being very condescendant to the journalists, refuses to answer the first question, then basically replies "No" to every question, decides Herself the end of the presser after literally two (!) minutes by ordering "last questions" then leaves.

Talk'about a sore loser :D:D

Serena is a great player, but I was disgusted how she was trying to bully Vinci with her screaming.

That knocks her down a bit as a great champion in my book.

Don't think it was that bad really, I'm certainly not a Serena fan but I don't think that press conference was that bad, talks a bit of rubbish with the not feeling the pressure and such but it certainly wasn't like sometimes when she gives no credit to her opponent and just said she played terribly, she certainly gave credit to Vinci in this match.

There's plenty of bad behaviour and classless press conferences and other things to get annoyed with Serena about without seeing things that aren't there.

Yeah well she does that a lot, not good behaviour. Very annoying.

More than her pressers I'm getting annoyed with her having tears in her eyes all the time when she's playing a tough match at a slam.

Man up!

She was clearly a bit touchy about the loss but honestly the interview was not bad. Her saying, "I don't want to answer that question now," does not make her a bad person.

New around these parts? Serena living and breathing to these trolls makes her a bad person!!! Get used to it..the TT Idiocracy Rules!

Probably why you are not #1 earning millions and contractually having to respond properly to the media after a GS match
Exactly.

But this just reinforces the belief many of us have that Serena (and Richard Williams who likely gave her the sunny disposition) is world class *sshat. For all the money the sport has put in her bank account she should have done the normal length presser, given stock answers. Instead she bolted in about 4 minutes - sad. But hardly surprising.

Yes but it makes her sore loser ;)
Look at Rafa for example... same questions over and over again (unfortunately for him obviously) but he sits there and talks ;) I mean, you are entertainer and payed extremely well for your job so deal with those loses like a boss and don't be a *ick cause those same media actually makes you a widely known star ;)

No matter how much money she has made one thing she will never be able to buy is class, respect, dignity and humility.

Her father no doubt did a great job in teaching her to be a winner and great competitor but he forgot to teach her how to treat others.

People here no doubt defend her with "she isn't used to losing", "great champions need to be arrogant to win" blah blah blah. No excuses.

Thanks been looking for this transcript. Silly of her to refuse the 2nd to last question too. Such a disgusting character. So glad she lost and didn't get to twirl around pretending like everyone likes her. She's delusional and a bully and tennis will be better off when she's not involved in the sport anymore.

the way she screamed VS Vinci was disgusting gamesmanship.
i mean while in rallies, after each ball. only to effect Vinci.
and yet - she DIDN'T scream on some important points towards the end of the match.
this is what makes it even worse.

Nothing comes close to Federer USO11 SF presser.

Serena just lost golden oportunity to win all 4 GS in a year.

Yes.

She was screaming on the top of her lungs when she wanted to and was dead silent in other points.

There was a point in which, after she won it, she made a really intimidating long scream looking at Vinci.

It seems that she learned something from Sharapova after all.

Q. How disappointed are you?
A. Yeah I am so very f******ly disappointed I wanna shove dis god damm madafaka balls down ya f****** throat. Now, yo, who wanna ask me da same god damm f****** questions????? If I see y'all down the corridor I'm gonna look the other way! Seriously? Y'all are haters and ugly on the inside...and that's the geekiest thing I can say to y'all.

Yep. Really obnoxious behaviour.

even setting aside the press conference, Serena is a poor sportsman. The melodrama, strange illnesses that only seem to affect her when she's losing points, etc. I mean, who would be shocked about a penalty when you yell 'C'mon!' at your opponent before the ball even gets to her?

I don't blame her for being disappointed. But part of being a professional is losing graciously and trying to be decent even when you're hurting. Not all pros can do it, but coaches' should be expected to shake hands, tennis players, hockey players, etc., too. When pros act like babies, we get a bunch of kids on the playing fields acting like their sunday afternoon game losses are galactic tragedies.

I really loved the point where she screamed, "YES ***** YES!!!!" after winning a point toward the end of the match. I caught that today during the mens final rain delay.

That's classy. That's your GOAT female tennis player. That's worthy of congratulations from the first lady.

Yep. Really obnoxious behaviour.
