Worst slam winners of all time

I like Gaudio. Him denying Coria the title was funny.
You might get different answers when you separate the tournament winning performances vs player careers.

A hard question to answer, since a major winner earns their title over a distance and many matches. It's probably Gaston Gaudio, since nearly everybody gave Gaudio no chance and assumed that Guillermo Coria would win. Coria had won 37 of his last 38 matches on clay, and had beaten then Italian Open champion Carlos Moya in straight sets in the quarter finals despite Moya serving for both the first 2 sets (Coria missed the 2004 Italian Open with injury). Coria also recovered from serve-and-volleyer Tim Henman outplaying him for the first set and a half in the semi finals, as Coria won 13 games in a row to turn the tide. Then again, Gaudio had beaten both Lleyton Hewitt and David Nalbandian in straight sets in the quarter finals and semi finals, when I expected Gaudio to lose both matches, so perhaps Gaudio should have been taken more seriously by us all. As a matter of fact, I was surprised when Gaudio beat Guillermo Canas in the first round. At that time, I thought Canas would be a French Open champion at some point.

Even more surprising is that Gaudio had a short temper a lot of the time, so how he managed to win the French Open is incredible.

I do not agree. Korda was a great player, defeating Sampras at USO 1997, and in Wimbledon 1997, match with Pete got five sets.

Yeah, Petr Korda smashed Marcelo Rios in the 1998 Australian Open final with much better tennis on the day. And there were a few instances from the late 1990s until around a decade later of players being given pills or medicine by ATP trainers/doctors with banned substances in it. A lot of the players who tested positive for something were from Argentina. In another (Coria's), a banned substance wasn't even listed on the label.

Richard Krajicek shouldn't be included in this debate.

Yes, the draw opened up for him at 1996 Wimbledon, but that was in the days before court homogenisation. With his serve and strong ground-strokes, he was always considered a dangerous player at SW19.

In addition, he reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon two years later, in 1998, and the quarter-finals six years later, in 2002.

He also reached a semi-final at Roland Garros, a semi-final at the Australian Open, and 3 quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows.

Add to that, 2 Masters titles, 14 other ATP titles, and a career high ranking of no.4, and it's obvious that he isn't - by any stretch of the imagination - in the ''worst player to win a Grand Slam'' discussion.

You are correct

Gaudio and Del Po are worse in every category you touched on

Funny because she's won the most ever, regardless of gender.

And she had two babies during her career, and won GSs between baby 1 and baby 2 with no fuzz, but you can be only the worst of them all if you don't share left-liberal values.

Well, to be fair she does have pretty some toxic intolerant views. I agree with OP that it hurts her image and my opinion of her, but it doesn't take away from GOAThood

A man who defeats Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in his path to the US Open title cannot be the worst Grand Slam winner ever. If we add the fact that Del Potro has two Olympic Medals after beating Djokovic twice at the Olympics, your claim is delusional.

Stop being butthurt by his victory over Federer and be more objective.

Delpo is probably one of the best single slam winners in tennis and could have won more without injuries and the big 4
