Worst slam winners of all time

I have the 1980 AO final with Teacher and Warwick, and commies were saying that Brian was playing the tennis of his career at that tournament. How reliable is that statement?

When we talk about worst slam winners ever, are we talking about a player's base level of play throughout their career, or the level they showed in that tournament, etc...

If we're just talking about level of play at the tournament they won and not level of play throughout their careers, I think Gerulaitis might edge out Teacher for worst level. Teacher straight setted Kim Warwick, who was 268-253 for his career w/3 titles and a career high rank of #15. Meanwhile, Gerulaitis gutted out a five set win over John Lloyd, who was 204-258 w/1 title and a career high rank of #21. Of course, Gerulaitis was much better throughout his career than Warwick, and I've never actually watched either final.

Edit: Apparently, Vitas was cramping starting in the 4th set:

And starting in the fourth set, with Lloyd making a strong comeback bid from two sets down, Gerulaitis was struck by cramps. "I could only serve from the shoulders, and every shot was agony," he said after the match.
