Build your own pro player by taking the worsts strokes that you ever seen the 25 past years on the ATP (by worst, I mean most inneficient or just bad looking).

Service : José Higuerras
Forehand : Santoro, or Edberg, or Yannick Noah
Backhand : Berasategui
Volley : Roddick
Footwork : Roddick or Karlovic

I don't think Edberg's forehand was either inefficient nor bad-looking. Special, yes, but a good stroke.

Roddick has good footwork and his volleys are improving. Many people exagerate his incompetence at the net.

I like Edberg, but he did not have a good forehand. I have an old Tennis article from Gilbert and he said something like for a #1 player in the world, Edberg had the worst forehand. He just kept it in play and tried to get to the net.

i knew it! i was thinking that this thread will contain roddick's name on it. this is a simple attack to roddick. i agree with splink779. come on! the guy is on his early 20's, there are lots of room for improvements. at least he tries to volley and be a complete players unlike those baseliners.

His footwork's not that bad either, it's gotten a bit sluggish because he wins so many free points, but it's not bad. Volleys aren't that bad, as said above, many just exaggerate his volleying.

I agree. You don't get to #2 in the world having bad footwork and a weak volley.

Though Roddick's footwork seems to be efficient, it still looks very ugly.

Roddick's volleys look ugly, bad form with to much exagerated swing, no touch at all, and they are also inefficient, he may wins lots of points at the net, but mainly when he hits a so huge serve or groundstroke that he only has a so easy put away volley to play next, that most 5.5 player could win the point as well as him.

Forehand : Santoro, or Edberg?
That's pathetic. Everyone of Santoro's strokes can give players a lot of trouble. Edberg? Not the greatest...but worst forehand in 25 years? Give me a break!

It's not negative i think, more interesting that anything. Edberg himself made the odd joke about his forehand. I'm not as much criticising the strokes below as having some fun and throwing an objective opinion in here and there.

Serve - Jaime Yzaga (I THINK he was the one with the weird serve)

Forehand - Yeah Edberg. Not a bad stroke result wise but ugh that flying elbow. Of course his majestic backhand did his other wing no favours.

Backhand - Jimmy Arias. Again, somewhat effective at times but not pretty.

Volley - Andre Agassi. He can volley hmmm ok but some aren't pretty. McEnroes volleys looked terrible at times too, dropping the racquet head and jumping etc. Pretty effective tho :p

Footwork - Milan SREJBER wasn't real pretty.

You missed my point entirely. He is quite possibly the best volleyer in history. The thread asks for inefficient OR bad looking strokes. McEnroes serve was considered odd in it's day too, but it was the best around. Lendl took his racquet back on the forehand without ever using his left hand, very uncommon too but voted the best forehand in history.

Why don't you have a crack at the thread instead of criticising my effort :)

Agassi's farmer sneeze is pretty unattractive also. The camera always seems to get him on that one.

this may be from 35 years ago but i would say worst as follows:
Forehand = Beppe Merlo
Backhand = Beppe Merlo
Serve = Beppe Merlo
Volley = Beppe Merlo
;)

Can you show us a picture of Beppe Merlo?

Spinbalz - Please note that I'm not the one who put up a WTA player (for once), you DID specify ATP. Great question and much more fun than the "best question" would be.
Groundstrokes - Wayne Arthurs, one of my faves.
Volleys - Mac - kids, don't try this at home, he's the best volleyer in the world and you can't pull it off!
Serve - Mac - kids, don't try this at home!

Forehand - Paola Suarez and the lasso above the head motion.

Backhand - Andy Roddick

Serve - Elena Dementieva

Volley - Andre Agassi

Footwork - Mary Pierce and her grandma running motion
