Would Djokovic have definitely won the USO last year if he wasn't disqualified?

I know the USO was a long time ago now lol. But do you think he would have definitely won that slam if he wasn't disqualified? He was already struggling against Carreno Busta in the first set of that match, I wonder if Djokovic would have won that and then won all remaining matches.

He was already struggling vs PCB. Took him 4 gruesome sets to beat the Spaniard on his weakest surface (clay). On HC, Pcb is better than he's at clay. I already felt that an upset was on the cards.
Yeah that did look like a tough 4 set or 5 set match. But assuming he got through that, who else do you think could have beaten him in that tournament?

of coarse.
didn't you know that after the official ceremony, officials took Zverev trophy and handed it to Thiem, and they took the cup from Thiem and handed it to Nole.
now it belongs to its true master.
justice was restored.

I actually thought Djokovic was playing well at that US Open, his serve was very good and his attacking forehand too. My impression from his match with PCB was that he was expecting an easy and quick match and got frustrated after not breaking from 0-40, but it is very hard to imagine him losing two other sets to the Spaniard even if he could not break at 6-5.

Thiem would be very hard to beat though, he would probably play a much better final if he was the underdog.

Probably, but the more I think about it, the more I’m relieved he didn’t. That tournament was a joke.

Thiem wouldn't be choking as much against Djokovic, but he'd probably end up losing in the end. But to answer your question, no it wasn't definite.

Maybe. Second week was underwhelming from most players, but we'll never know how Djokovic would have responded to it. He's been hot and cold at the US Open over the years. What we do know is how clueless people are saying that Busta was dominating him when Novak wasted many opportunities to take the set earlier while PCB converted his very first chance. No big signs pointed towards a full match upset.

We'll never know.

It's not PCB's fault, but Novak would have probably taken him in 5, if not 4. And then, he'd have to run thru Shapo, Zverev and Thiem. I think he'd have make the final, but not sure he would've gotten ny Thiem.

Anyway, water under the proverbial bridge.

Djokovic thought PCB was dominating him hence the tantrum that nearly took the line judge out.

Everyone knows he had tantrums over small concerns before, even in some matches when he was leading. But hey you know what Djokovic was thinking at the time. I can't argue against that.

for the love of you know who..... if he was not disqualified?
IF he played so and so. If he played an in-form Wawrinka...it never ends here with all the speculation.
IF Roger beat hims serving at 40-15 match points in those 2 slams would Djokovic still have 18 slams, maybe just 16, maybe just 12 or 10.
Stop the nonsense.

I think he would have won, yes. Shapo couldn't even beat PCB. Zverev barely eeked past this same PCB and Thiem played a lousy final. Don't think he plays a better one just because it would be Djokovic on the other side of the net. It's Timmy in a big final we're talking about.

He was 100% going to win that. But also, had Wimbledon been played, I was 100% going to win that on a charity wildcard.
