Would Federer be retired already if he had converted those match points in Wimbledon 2019?

Would Federer be retired already if he won Wimbledon 2019?

I feel like Federer is continuing to play not because of the enjoyment or sponsorships or anything like that, but because that Wimbledon 2019 loss really hurts him, even to this day. He dominated the match in terms of points won and number of winners but he still lost it, despite having 2 match points on his serve. He wants to avenge that loss somehow. He feels like that Wimbledon title should have been his and he simply can't get over the loss.

What do you think? Or would he still try to keep playing even if he won that?

He'd still be playing because he'd believe he could win another slam after beating Djokodal back to back to win Wimbledon, why wouldn't he?

"Retiring at the top" was never in the cards for Fed, he was always gonna be carried out in stretchers out of the game IMO.

If anything, winning that title would only have emboldened him. Why would a player retire after accomplishing a feat of that magnitude?

Well he might not have retired right away, but once he got the injury, maybe he would have just called it a day at that point rather than try a lengthy recovery process and return to the game?

If Fed were the “retire at the top” kind of guy wouldn’t have he done so in 2017 or 2018?

Not retire right after winning, but after coming back from injury this year, then going for yet more surgery. At that point, would he just retire if he had won Wimbledon 2019?

Even if Federer did retire after 2019 Wimbledon had he won it , he knows that would not be enough to secure the slam race or the goat status . Novak and Nadal would still likely catch up to him regardless . Honestly i think both Novak and Rafa have multiple slams left in them , Novak probably has more .
Federer lost too many big matches to Nadal and Djokovic , even that Wimbledon had he won it would not be enough .
Roger will end up as the third best and greatest of all time and of his era and a lot of that is his own fault , so many match points wasted against Novak and tight matches lost , he had a ton of bp against Nadal in so many GS matches and had a horrible conversion rate . A lot of people say Roger was old and he was facing 2 ATG and that is the reason and while partially true it was still mostly his own doing .
Nobody can tell me that when somebody has match points or dozens of break points that ,, age ,, was the reason why he wasn't clutch more often than not .

With 2019 WB title, Fed would for sure retire as GOAT. No doubt about that and that's all what matters. Now, he slightly ruined his legacy because he continued competing, was even bageled at WB 2021 and now they put some other players into GOAT equation. He had such a great chance. When I think about it now and look at that decisive game, I just can't and will never be able to believe what he missed. Doesn't look real. Perhaps it was written in the stars that he should ruin it. I don't know...

Wow, so not only are post prime Slemz worth something, from a Fedfan perspective they can even make you an undisputed GOAT...

Or in 2015, when he was playing his best tennis
Yes, but he won zero slams... Premise is that he wins slams...

On topic... Nope, the opposite, he would continue to play some 5 years more that he will play now... So till 60 years old...
