Would Jim Courier be more successful if he were active today?

Break To Win

Semi-Pro
I think that with slower hard courts nowadays, I think he would have a lot of success, as much or more as in his time.

There are many tennis players similar to Jim Courier on the circuit today. Taylor Fritz is one of them, except Fritz is not successful on clay.

Any thoughts on this?

Yes. If he grew up and had someone retool is backhand. His mental toughness is way ahead of pretty much every active player besides 3. And we all know who those are.

Question is what is the time period, for example if his peak time period is between 2004 -2013 then he was not winning four slam
I don't seem him beating Fed Or Novak at AO Or Rafa at RG.
If between 1999-2003 ( his peak version) then absolutely yes.
Again from 2014- 2020
Then he will win slam but not four as his chance of Winning us open will increase but again don't see him taking out Fed Or Novak many times to win two AO
If from 2022 to 2024 then yes on two three RG but again no other slam, he will not be beating Rafa at 2022 AO with that BH

I never was a Courier fan, but he was mentally a rock, was a tremendous competitor on court and fitter than any current player aside from Djokovic. Peak Courier beats Alcaraz, Rune and Sinner (at their current levels) on every surface - easily.

Oh - and for those thinking he couldn't play on grass and Alcaraz might beat him, Courier played Pete close in their Wimbledon final. A few points either way in the first two TB's and he would have defeated peak Pete on grass. scoreline for Sampras was 7-6, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4. That was much tighter than any score Andre produced against Pete at Wimbledon.

Jim had devastating ground strokes with an 85 racquet and synthetic gut lol. With a Pure Aero and full poly his game would be ridiculous. There are few players from the 90s that would benefit from modern tech and surfaces as Jim would. He'd be racking up slams in this era
