Would Medvebear be the 1st slam champ without a 5-set win to his name?

Providing he doesn't beat Novak in 5 sets...

I don't have the data, but I can't come up with any player who's won his debut slam without having at least one 5-set win.

Anyone know any such cases?

CORRECTION: It turns out the posters who (as of very recently) claimed that Medvebear has no 5-set wins helped spread misinformation... He does have one recent 5-set win.

No, but he could've been had he not beaten Krajinovic in 5.

The only male player who didn't have a 5-set win until the tournament at which they won their first slam was Mats Wilander at Roland Garros 1982. He collected his first career 5-set win in the 4th round vs Lendl, then won his first slam about a week later.

Not surprising considering Mats was about 12 years old at the time.

Is this poetry or a cheesy riddle?

Cheesy poetry? Riddly poetry? Or poetic riddles?

Communism was proven wrong 500 times, yet certain people still adhere to it...

Would he be the first without a FO win to his name? Even Becker, Sampras and Connors (who used to skip the French at the beginning of his career) had a win when they won their first slam. Other very young slam winner (Chang, Wilander, Nadal) won their first slam at the French.

Mark Edmondson had never even played at the FO when he won the AO in 1976.

Thanks. Special case though as a) AO was not really considered a slam back then and b) he hadn’t played the FO. Medwedew has played already four times of I am not mistaken.
Yeah I know. I should have looked for the "true" slam champs, i.e. excluding those who won the AO in the late 70s/early 80s. You're probably right that there's nobody without a match win at the FO.

Seems to be working out for China. Maybe they check things before acting? LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP!
You mean that capitalist brand of communism they started several decades ago after "pure" socialism completely failed - after it took the lives of tens of millions of people?

Yeah, that system seems to work fine... Just talk to the millions of political prisoners, they're loving it.

Ask Hong Kong residents too: they love being oppressed.

Communism fails, that's just communism. Communism succeeds, that's just capitalism.

Just because Medvedev is Russian that does not provide you with an excuse to talk politics.

Says the guy advertising his political orientation on a tennis forum with a huge red star...

I am not aware of any other users who wave their political affiliation this way with their avatar.

How many people have you converted here so far, Mr Establishment Revolutionary?
