Sampras-Aggasi rivalry was BORING. People say it was close just take the slam matches AGGASI only one ONCE and most of their matches did not get your heart pounding!!!!

Sampras played IN A WEAK ERA!!!!!!

WHY??? casue i think sampras is OVERRATED??? Well that's what i think. There are many many people on this forum who think federer and nadal and laver are overrated so they trolls too??????????

OK, for the sake of argument...

Sampras wins Wimbledon, Nadal wins Australia. Pete never really played that great in Australia (I know, 2 titles). But, it is a slower surface, especially when it was Rebound Ace. That was such a cool color, I wish that they still had it! But, at Wimbledon, in Sampras' prime? Pete wins going away...and for those of you bashing on Pete...get a clue. He played against players that are much higher on the all-time best level than Nadal or Federer ever have. Becker, Edberg, Agassi and on and on and on...

I decided to put this theory to test so I ran up Virtua Tennis and double-bageled Sampras on grass with Nadal so Nadal FTW,however this was on easy difficulty,I'll try later on harder difficulties and report.

Well I don't know if we will have definitive results, maybe if I ran Top Spin and tried the same there?? There's also Dream Match Tennis Pro as well.

Hey I would be interested in the result...I mean this is a hypothetical situation which is never going to happen...so why not? ;)

Sampras would be a worse matchup for Nadal than Federer, and Nadal is just scraping by a slightly past his prime Federer in the big non clay matches so far. Add to that Federer's IMO mental block with Nadal which costs him alot of their close encounters. I guess slow hard courts and todays slowed grass though Nadal has a fighting chance, but still it is close to 50-50. The faster grass of the 90s or the fast hard courts of the U.S Open then or now definitely Sampras would be favored.

i disagree that sampras was over-rated, but i certainly think he should NOT be part of the overall GOAT discussion at all, simply because he sucked 33% of the tennis season and in 25% of the slams - I'm sorry, but he simply was not a well-rounded player. He is definitely a contender for the fast surface GOAT. Along the same lines, I think his "clutch" mentality is overrated as well - his "clutch mentality" did not help him win the French or the other tournaments that he lost.

To the OP's question: if it was the grass of the 90's sampras would win most often than not; today's grass, Nadal would win without question. Both Nadal and Sampras require the assistance of the surface to maximize the effectiveness of their games. At AO, nadal would win most of the time.

Some one like Federer (I know, he's a rare breed) has the game to perform regardless of the surface.

On contrary, I think Sampras is underrated.

one of the dumbest threads ever, sampras would win in 3 sets, and nadal had to play perfect and federer had to be off for nadal to win.

Sampras wins both. Sampras hits flat like Soderling. Nadal is very vulnerable to big server with flat groundstrokes. If you can serve big and hit flat and deep the whole match, you can beat Nadal on any surface including clay, in Paris.

Nadal wins 6-0 6-0 6-0. Sampras is vulnerable to clay courters no matter what surface, as Kuerten showed at the end of 2000, and Nadal is much better than Kuerten on every surface.

i'm taking bets for how long Pretty boy will stay among us...

i say 2 weeks!

lol noob troll just cuz sampras pwned agassi in the slams doesnt mean their rivalry was boring. agassi was great at masters tournaments like indian wells and miami. agassi forced pete 2 up his level of play 2 combat agassis great timing and groundies. pete had 2 serve well = a lot more double faults than against other players. pete also had 2 attack at all times chip and charging 2 keep andre off balance. Sampras era was not weak. u had guys who were multiple slam winners like courier agassi edberg becker rafter kafelnikov and others even tho some were past their prime or MIA when pete played his best. other times he played streaky and inconsistent guys like goran, krajicek, stich, or korda who could sometimes b brilliant but were headcases. in addition, there was a wide array of baseliners(chang, agassi, courier, korda, kafelnikov, bruguera, muster, berasatagui) and s&v (goran, edberg, becker, stich, krajicek, and flipper), whereas nowadays there are only baseliners due 2 poly, babolats, and slower conditions.

Depends which Sampras. In a fast grass Wimbeldon with prime Pete, Nadal wouldn't even reach the final, but assuming he would have he'd lose in straight sets. On today's grass, it's a coin toss really. I think Nadal would have beaten Pete 50% of the times the would meet in the AO, but never at the US Open.

One of the biggest Sampras fans here was Laurie(whose posts I miss BTW as they were a great read)and he was British so you don't have a clue.Sampras was also always big here in Serbia.

Oh and Sampras-Agassi is probably the best match-up in tennis ever,a duel between 2 great players who were a true contrast in playing styles and personality.Tennis match-up doesn't get any better than that but yeah, continue talking out of your ***.

Here's a sample so you can get it into your thick head what I'm talking about:

Absoulutely breathtaking tennis from both. One of the best tiebreaks I've ever seen.

Man the grass isn't that different. People are losing their minds over this issue.

Roger Federer has stated to Pete Sampras PERSONALLY that the grass of Wimbledon today is no different than before.
