Would this be demanding too much as a Djokovic fan?

???

  • Yes, that is demanding WAY too much from Djokovic. Those people are downright toxic.

  • No, they have the right to be disappointed that he didn't maintain his form after 2011

Obviously, Djokovic had one of the greatest seasons of all time in 2011 when he won 3/4 GS titles and 5/9 Masters and finished the year with 14000+ ATP points, while competing with prime Fedal.
But unfortunately for Djokovic fans, he has not ever been able to replicate this form after the 2011 USO. Although he did have short flashes of brilliance from time to time in the future (e.g. Wimbledon 2015 final, Doha 2016 final, AO 2016 semi-final, AO 2019 final), he has never been able to replicate a continuous season-long maintenance of his 2011 form.

Surprisingly, I have seen some Djokovic fans showing DISAPPOINTMENT about how Djokovic only had one season playing consistently at his 2011 level and they were even COMPLAINING about how he was not good enough to maintain his form.
And believe it or not, some of them consider his 2011 season to be "BAD", because he did not win the ATP Finals and got bagelled by Nishikori.
I saw comments like "The post-USO period was terrible. I was disappointed. I just don't know why in the world he couldn't maintain his 2011 form in the future. As a Nole fan, I am not too satisfied." "I am a Nole fan, but he cannot be considered the GOAT if he had the shortest peak in tennis history of just 9 months. Even Fed had longer peak period than that."

I understand that as fans, they want Novak to win as much as possible, but isn't it super greedy and even toxic for a fan to be dissatisfied with his 2011 season and demand him to replicate this for several more years when the level he was playing at was clearly unsustainable and taking a toll on his body?

I remember taking a lot for granted during Djokovic's prime. 2011 was THE year for me. He did the impossible.
Everything else never quite felt like 2011. But as he ages, his accomplishments become more and more impressive and I'd love to see him win a Slam in his 40s.

I've never really cared about Federer. For me, it was all about Rafa. I knew Federer was a non-issue despite people at the time claiming he was GOAT. Watching Novak go toe-to-toe with Rafa on clay is what truly made me a fan. Rome 2011 is when I truly became a Djokovic fan.

TOTAL NONSENSE!

What do you think? Assuming the first pick.

Nah...he has slam record now, weeks #1 record, YE#1 record, Masters 1000 record and as of most recently YEC ATP record as well...it's all academic now...:sneaky:

2015 was just as good, some said better. Since 2011, only Djokovic had 3-slam years, he had 4 of them. Before you say the field is too weak in the latter two, remember that the field Federer in '04-07 dominated was just as weak.

In any case, Djokovic won 3 slams in each of 2011 and 2015, with the strongest field ever.

What kind of dumb analytics is this, OP didn't watch tennis from 15-16 when he had the greatest stretch in history of Open era and won 4 slams in a row?
RG 2016 was with a Nadal that didn't even participate in the later rounds due to injury.

2011 felt far more inpressive because Novak won nearly everything against stronger competition.
