Would you stock up on a certain shoe/apparel if it was discontinued?

I found a local store that has several pairs of Breathe Cage IIs in my size and a colorway I really like. I absolutely love these shoes and I'm disappointed to see that Nike has discontinued them.

If you were faced with a similar situation would you stock up on an item that you absolutely love and you know has been discontinued?

depends the cost. My tennis coach bought ten of his favoirate raquets made in the 90s because they were his favirate. Please excuse my spelling.

Shoes--yes. Apparel--no. A good shoe is hard to find because of the numerous variables. Likewise, a shoe may affect how you play and how your feet/legs feel during the match and afterward. Apparel-not anywhere near as much, if at all.

I'm doing that right now with the cb2.3s, I'm not a big fan of the way the new 3.3s look so I'm buying all the size 12 2.3s I can! Two reasons 1) the 2.3 is the best looking tennis shoe ever and 2) I love the connected tongue

depends on how many years of supply you intend to buy. over time, glues will disintegrate as will the soft EVA midsoles.

I might get one extra pair (at the right price, as Parker mentioned) - two max. I guess I have enough faith in Nike not to suck for too long. If worse comes to worse, their City Courts are fine for playing in if their high end shoes aren't attractive to me - or the price never comes down.

The 3.3s are pretty ugly I have to say. The Winter 2010 2.3 looks awesome.

It's too bad that the Breathe 2K10s are not durable at all. Is Nike planning a followup to the Breathe Cage line?

I did once with the Lotto Futura Speed. One of the all time best shoes I ever had and the last high-end performance tennis shoes that was made in Italy and leather.

^Those were Lottos. Actual Lotto. The real thing. Not the plastic ****e they try to sell these days.

I did the same with the old FILA Rads and also some of the early adidas responses.

Hey, they say shoes have a shelf life. Is that just running shoes? OR is that a way to get people to buy new, current stock?

no, it's true that shoes have a shelf life. the midsoles will disintegrate. the outer sole gets hard and the glue starts coming apart. i know from 1st hand experience.

I would definitely stock up again on Breath Free II's.

I did a few years back when they were discontinued, and only have one pair left that gets some use from time to time.

How long is the shelf life of an average shoe?

How long before the glue starts coming apart etc?

Usually if the shoe is kept DS(dead stock) or unused , in a friendly environment ( sans humidity, extreme heat, etc.) 3-4 years. It's like breaking an arm and its casted, the muscle atrophy's and get's weak without use. So, if you wear it casually and get some tension and weight bearing on the soles you'll be good.

If they fit you like a glove and provide great support, I would grab as many pairs as you can afford. Shoes manufacturers constantly tinker with their design and not always for the best.

I might get 2 pairs of shoes if the price is right and I have extra cash lying around...but I wouldn't for apparel.

Racquets and/or shoes...I can see the point...apparel...not so much.

I wish I had stocked up on the Breathe IIIs when they were available, especially the all white colorway and the red/black colorway. Only have one pair of each that are serviceable now.

Stocking up on the white/purple CB 1.3s. Favorite available shoe atm.
