The title says it all. The final was really bad to watch. Your thoughts? (Don't give the winner away to people who haven't watched the match)!

I'm usually not the one to yell conspiracy but this final just seemed a bit fishy to me.

Such a competitive final that was. The ATP should definitely take note on how to produce such high quality matches like today's.

Nobody in their right mind could ever disagree that the two sisters MUST discuss or ponder upon the fact that they can manipulate the result. Venus had won 5, Serena 2. Venus won it last year. This year....

Awful. Serena finally seems to have made the complete switch from female to male. Awful, awful match.

It was just bad. No real rallies until the last game.

And it did seem weird when on Serena's first match point she had that free ball from Venus' stabbing lob, and instead of just smashing it away she hit this dinky forehand that even the crowd reacted to as being weak that resulted in Serena losing the point.

There were times where I expected the crowd to boo.

Worst women's Wimbledon final I can recall.

I'm in my right mind and honestly don't think they "fix" their matches. They might not play their best against each other but to say they are choosing who wins ahead of time is ludicrous. Especially now. They are both in their late 20's in the twilight of their careers what would be the point? It's definitely not for the money. If they are going for records Venus has a better shot of breaking Martina's record than Serena does so why not have Venus win? The way Serena acted last year after losing was genuine disappointment. I don't care what kind of "acting" she does.

y bruh? For who and for what? it really is not necessary to come on these forums and insult a player's physical appearance. Ur hate is unhealthy. U should definently go see someone about that.

Venus is far too old to have had any shot of even tieing Martina's Wimbledon record anyway so that logic wouldnt really apply. Serena has a better shot to win 15 slams or more than Venus who has none, so it makes more sense for Serena to win if it is being fixed.

To be honest I think Venus has won her last slam all things considered. She has zero shot of winning an Australian or French again, she will be 30 years old by the time of next years Wimbledon and U.S Open, she hasnt even reached a U.S Open final since 2002, and Serena owns her at this point.

whose paying to watch that stuff...

I wouldn't watch that crap if you gave me front role center seats,or better yet the players box seats... all the family party and we're here talking about it.. I'm praying that there is a girl out there who has enough hunger to save the WTA from the Williams sisters act.. especially Serena.. Venus is ok but she'd not serious about tennis either.. sad state of women's tennis...

I like the WTA but that was a crap final
and it was the same with the French this year.

Things need to change in womens tennis.

Say it with me now....predetermined outcome.

It wasn't a great final, but it wasn't the worst either.

I can't believe they are being paid the same as the men for such a poor product. The game really misses Hingis and Henin. They actually used their minds on the court. Now it's just mindless baseline bashing and grunting. No imagination, change of pace, or point construction. Just robotic bashing till one hits long. Hopefully there are some girls coming up who will break the mold.

I don't know why I was so psyched about this one. Their matches are usually terrible.

Dementieva/Serena WAS really good though. It's not like all WTA matches are terrible. I just don't understand why the women can't bring it in a final.

When was the last exciting slam final on the WTA tour? Do we have to go as far back as Davenport/Venus?

i don't get how the amount of games venus lost the entire tournament could have practically been counted on 2 hands and then gets beaten that bad of a scoreline.

I agree. Very well put. Unfortunately, I think the mold you described is pretty much set in stone and very unlikely to change any time soon. These days, I'm happy just to see a baseline basher who doesn't grunt and scream and shriek when she hits the ball. Women's tennis is in a sorry state and Nick Bollitieri has a lot to answer for, imo.

it's not great but it's much better than one of the semifinal matches. mary carillo had to apologize to the viewers when they showed the clips :)

Martina Navratilova is right. this out and out shrieking must end. It's hurting the Woman's tour. It's always talked about because of how utterly ridiculous it has gotten. I honestly believe if this shrieking did not exist the WTA would have a more positive image.
