Wrist Pain! Help me find the cause?

Hi guys, i have a question about a wrist.
So i have owend an early Radical (Bumble-Bee) since it came out and never really used it untill a few months back. Since then i have started using it and loved it, UNTILL the LAST few games.

In the past i have typically used 10.9-11.2oz racquets...
All of a sudden last few times playing, my wrist has hurt me. I realize that the radical is 12+ oz racquet could that be the cause? is it too heave to just pick up and play a match after paying with 11oz most of my life?

The pain is mosly mucsle between my thumb and pointing finger...
any tips are appreciated

of course it could be the increased weight , but if it's so i wouldn't worry about it much and try to strengthen my arm a little more ..

I don't understand the problem. You say it's in your wrist, but then you say the pain is mostly between your thumb and index finger, which would be in your hand, not your wrist.

If it's the muscle between your thumb and finger, then it's probably just minor overuse due to a different grip shape. Don't worry about that.

It could be the racquet is heavy, although I had horrible wrist pains when using a racquet that was too light for me. Stick with the 11 ozers if you get no pain with them.

Do you have funky-ass strokes perhaps? Maybe you use your wrist to much in generating topspin?

Go and have it checked by an orthopedist. No one on an Internet chat board is going to be able to help you figure out the cause.

Yep, use the racquet that doesn't hurt. When you make that switch to the heavier frame, you're still using the muscle memory that gives you proper timing to hit the ball that worked for the lighter one. Changing your timing to swing a heavier racquet naturally can take a little while, so if you switch, use the heavier one in some workouts where you can concentrate on staying ahead of the ball instead of rushing to catch up with it.

er if it's a shooting pain between your thumb and index then it could be a pinch nerve. This is very bad. If it's a throbing pain, it could just be muscle strain and all you have to do is rest and build up your gripping strength. Either way I'd err on the side of caution and take Phil's advice, see a doctor.

i used the same agassi racket in high school many years ago. i developed a "technique" that developed nasty topspin spin which incorporate using the wrist.
anyway.
due to a weak wrist and too much wrist action, i injured my wrist. and had systoms like you.
your body/hand/wrist is getting used to the "gripping of the racket" so the pain is/may be soreness.

question: do you use a lot of "wrist" when hitting topspin or any other shot?

i recommend using a lighter racket if pain doesn't go away and see a doctor!

ps...my high school coach, young and fit guy borrowed my racket to demonstrate a service, one swing with the racket and he told him it was like swinging a tank. big and heavy! he advice me to change it. it took 8 years and i finally changed.

I had that pain when I first started playing tennis. Weight of the racquet had absolutely nothing to do with it in my case because I was using one that was fairly light. I developed it because I was gripping too tightly on my backhand. If that's your problem, try loosening up your grip. Otherwise, I don't know. I hope this helps.
