Wrist Tenderness

So for the first time in 20 years, I’ve been getting a little bit of wrist tenderness when first starting to hit and then it generally just gets muted or goes away after about 20 minutes. Is there a wrist compression or wrist brace that you guys recommend?
Yes, I’m a poly user and that’s not gonna change anytime soon. Just want to avoid getting into soft strings discussion.

I wear a compression sleeve, a wrist brace sounds like it would really hurt your game.

Might want to do some more involved warmup for the wrist

Can you copy a link to a risk compression sleeve because I don’t want to use one that goes over into my palm of my hand as that would ruin the feel of the racket I would think

You probably need more rest and to do strengthening exercises to deal with the problem longer term. What exercises do you do for your hands and wrists?

I just use the McDavid thermal ones, they are thick and tight and are longer than my arm so I can adjust them to cover the wrist. But no, you correctly would not want anything on your hand

Other advice about rest and strengthening are apt. And honestly the racquet is the biggest factor here. I sold my Yonex VCP97 because I they hurt my wrist when I played my style (very loose and wristy)

Using poly is fine especially at tensions below 50lbs, but you might need to look at how long you use the poly. Stiffer polys like ALU Power, ROM Blast go dead and cause me wrist soreness within 8-10 hours. Softer polys like HyperG take about 18-20 hours before I feel soreness. YMMV.

I’ve seen this wrist brace used by some in my club.

You can also just use some athletic tape.

honestly none. do you think the typical hand grip strengthener would help?
I think that would help, but my general advice is slightly different. I'd go to utube and look up physios demonstrating wrist exercises for rehabilitation and strengthening. I wouldn't focus on stretching first, but more warmup mobility exercises and then exercises for extension and flexion of the wrist and radial and ulnar deviation.

I ended up getting a flexbar for wrist and elbow pain, but I think it is easy enough to make a wrist roller with a dowel and some cord which will accomplish the same goal. I get grip strength exercise from hanging from a bar and doing weight lifting movements like the deadlift.

Doing simple daily mobility exercises and then harder strengthening exercises (mostly with the roller and a hanging weight) a few times a week resolved my wrist pain.
