Wrist Tendonitis?

Has anyone every experienced it? How long does it take to heal. Its been 4 months now and it still hurts I have to warm up very very slowly so it doesnt hurt while playing.

It depends how bad it is but, like all inflammatory conditions (assuming that is what it is), you should not play and rest it until it heals, then strengthen it, then gradually reintroduce play duration and intensity. If you're still playing, thats probably why it hasn't healed over 4 months. Continual aggravation can lead to a chronic tendinopathy which will cause more damage and take much longer to heal.

I had an ulnar sided tendinitis 6 years ago when I first started playing with a semi-western grip. There would be an initial shock-like pain when I played, then no pain during the match, then a burning like pain that lasted days afterwards. With 3 weeks conservative rest, ice, and short-course of NSAIDs and topical NSAIDs, the pain went away and I proceeded to wrist strengthening exercises (on the couch, in front of the TV, watching tennis :) ). I then slowly re-introduced play, had a few tennis lessons to improve my technique and never had an issue with it again.

Bent arm exacerbates your condition I believe. Really start straightening your hitting arm more if you want less stress for your wrist or strengthen your grip and forearm strength. Or even change the grip to less western if you have to.

It deals mostly with tendinitis (with inflammation) and tendinosis (with defective healing).

Tennis players should stop immediately when they get a tendon tear and see a Dr. According to what I have read playing on it for more than a few weeks can lead to chronic tendinosis. See the first one page paper in reply #1 regarding tendinitis & tendinosis. See the longer description of tendinosis in reply #15.

Hey Marina, I've got exactly the same problem I think. Where exactly is your pain? Is it near the bone under the pinky finger? I've noticed that I get the pain when I drop the racket too much on my THB to generate topspin. I've taken about two months off and plan to try and hit the ball flatter next time I play. Not really sure what else to do sadly.

Yeah it hurts right there! It only hurts in the beginning of play when I hit a ball hard. But after a while it warms up and doesn't hurt anymore

My TE condition was exactly like that. It hurts a little, then is ok during the rest of play, and when I go home, it starts to hurt again.

I would stop immediately before the condition gets worse. Or, you could hit one handed backhand or just slices.

I'm pretty sure it's the same issue then. It's kind of comforting to know that someone else has it that is a similar age to me. Although count yourself lucky you don't have tennis elbow as well! Then you really can't play.

I am seeing more folks with off arm injuries due to 2HBH, both wrist and golfers elbow. Still better than TE due to 1HBH :)

Do the usual: ice for 20 minutes every 2 hours after playing at least 3-4 times a day. Also, play less and BH slice with a firm wrist is your friend. Perfect time to master the slice backhand!

It's great that you finally have a firm diagnosis.

I don't know your age.

In adolescence, before bones have stopped growing the location of the growth plates is weaker than the bone will become after growth is completed. Special injuries can result to the growth plates. Did your Dr discuss any possibly growth plate connection to your injury?

Do you know how you broke your wrist? Is the break associated with a tendon or ligament pulling a bone fragment off a bone in your wrist? Or a fall? Bad tennis hit?

I'd suggest that you get the report written by the radiologist who examined your MRI. You can get that by request to your Dr or to the imaging lab. Research every finding and term in the report.

They called it tendonitis and gave me ibuprofen again. 6 months passed pain is still there, had MRI and old ununited fracture

liquid or powder calcium in form of citrate or tr calcium phosphate

if the capsule says take 2, it means 2 for every 100 pounds of bodyweight, you then need 1 for every 50 after and you need to double the dose if you taking it because you need it for a condition.

I wonder how many people know this stuff. Not many

Hand issues require a specialist.

Request your MRI written report. I always request the MRI written report, and the X Ray written report and X Ray images. It usually takes a specialist to interpret an MRI image so I usually don't request the MRI images. But in your case, I'd get the wrist MRI images themselves because I'd be interested in seeing if the MRI image or X Rays shows the bone fragment, size and location. MRI's usually show soft tissue better and in 3 dimensions. X rays show shadows of the bones. Your imaging might show a ligament or tendon attached to a pulled-off bone fragment, or other chip from bones colliding. ?

You should also become familiar with the images in case there are changes in the future.
