I think a lot of people are missing the point here...This is a business decision by all parties.
Nike is an established company that has been on a somewhat of a downtrend. Paying 30 mil to Fed isn't worth it to them for many reasons. If Nike is on a downtrend while Fed was with Nike, why on earth would they want to pay him even more when he won't be playing within the next 5 years. Just doesn't make a lot of financial sense. Economics 101... Now Fed might not be worth 30 mil a year, especially when he will be retiring pretty soon, but to Uniqlo, which I believe is on an uptrend, is totally worth it. Start hitting the western markets, potentially start having a decent athletic line. So opportunities here are far greater to Uniqlo than they are to Nike.
Again, these are just opportunities. With that you need good management to run it and that is yet to be seen.
Now, do I like Uniqlo, meh it's ok, I like higher end fashion. His US open kits look kind of cheap and materials nowhere near look as good as Nike's, however Nike's kits as of last 18 months have been pretty ugly to say the least. All of their mid range players wearing the same stuff and it's not very nice looking stuff.
