Last WTA Permier 5: Wuhan!
Defending Champ Wuhan: Petra Kvitova
Defending Champ Tashkent: Kr. Pliskova

Heavy load in Wuhan with 8 of top 10 players participating (Minus Svitolina and Venus).
Again we have the race to be no 1. Garbine, Simona, and Karolina are in the contention of no. 1 rank.
Could it be the time for Simona?

The draw is nice and open for Simona to make a final as Petra, Muguruza and Pliskova are in the same half. And we might have Muguruza vs Mladenovic! Maybe this match is the redemption match that Kiki needs.

Would really love if last year Petra turn up destroying Ostapenko, Svitolina, Kerber, Konta, Halep, and Cibulkova en route.

Meanwhile in Tashkent, the chances are big for NextGen Vondrousova to grab the title. Seeds are: Kr. Pliskova, Babos, German Maria, and Begu.

Less than two hours for her to already be in trouble.

Chair umpire to Putintseva re how she’s talking to the ballkids. “Don’t talk to them like that. Don’t put pressure on them."

"The turning point for me—I'm going to be rude a little bit here—I never managed to find a good person for myself as a coach," she told the WTA’s website. "And I think that's the main reason, because nobody would understand that thing that I have that is different.

"Sometimes in matches I save myself from incredible [positions] by using a shot that you would never suggest to do. I would not practice that. It's just intuition, a feeling.”

Maybe it's time you get a coach girllll.
She played a lot like Bouchard, just no strategy at all.

For me, nothing beats this:

"My progression has been steady and that’s what I like about my path. For a lot of girls, there’s a quick rise, than a drop, then they rise again, get to the top 10 and fall down again. Eugenie Bouchard is the most prominent example. Or my best friend on tour, Belinda Bencic; injuries have caught up to her. Garbiñe Muguruza also is struggling since her win at Roland-Garros. I’m progressing slowly, but I haven’t had any lows. I want to build something solid.”

That was in early May. As you said, she's now lost 8 straight matches whilst Muguruza holds a slam and is #1.
:D

Mladenovic is arrogant and cocky without being able to back it up, her raise came when Serena/Sharapova/Azarenka/Bencic were out and players like Muguruza/Halep/Kerber being in poor shape. She spoke like she is the WTA version of Zverev and now came the most expected problem for her .. to realise that she is not as good as she thinks she is. Gulbis and Tomic were on the same train once, Bouchard also suffer a similar scenario. Mladenovic deserves every bit of her fate

When is that quote from? Cause obviously Garbi did struggle for a while, but she's won two big tournaments this year.

I wonder if she plateaued, cause she honestly doesn't seem to be getting any better. But as mentioned, her "rise" did coincide a bit with injury problems of the other players and an bit of a drop in the level of play on WTA tour. Things have gotten a bit better since then.

Maybe girls figured out that her backhand is super exploitable as well. Feel like you can just go hard to that side often and she'll give short ball or go for the ejector seat and hit the drop shot.

Early May. So would have been a few weeks before she made the French QF after beating Muguruza. But yeah that match has really been the turning point for both. Good for Garbine, bad for Mladenovic. (Although Muguruza was thrashed in Eastbourne but we'll disregard that)

Doesn't sound like she'll last much longer.

Madison Keys trying to hold back tears as Kindlmann comes down for a chat. “You know what to do if it’s too painful.” But urging her on.

Keys had 2 SPs on Lepchenko's serve @ 5-4, but wound up losing in a breaker.

Slam finalist hangover strikes again.

Keys did well at the USO. She's unlucky to be so injury prone - although her style of game doesn't help.
I still remain unconvinced that she has a tactical brain and until she does she will never rack up win after win after win.

Sloane plays really bad!
The courts doesn't suit her style but still, should've done better than 2&2.
Another impressive win from Wang. She's so close to beat Pavs in Tokyo.

Both USO winner and finalist out in Wuhan. Not exactly a good look.

Hopefully Muguruza or one of the other top ladies can win the title. Would love to see Kvitova win again, otherwise her ranking will finally begin to suffer the consequences of that stabbing injury and her 5 months out. She'll drop 900 points this week which is only about 3 spots but she has Beijing QF points, Luxembourg final points and the Elite Trophy at the end of the year to defend as well. Could be a big fall.

A lot of great matches on.

Begu v Zvonareva in Tashkent.

Kerber v Garcia, Gavrilova v Goerges in Wuhan.

And Stosur up soon so i'm excited for that.

Lauren Davis ends her 7 match losing streak by beating Petkovic.

Zvonareva wins! Scores a big win over 4th seed Begu.

First main draw win since her comeback. Fantastic to see from the former #2. Now faces Parmentier. Her last main draw match win was back in 2015 in Katowice.

Kerber was looking good lately.
Loses in the first round.
Madison Keys played the US Open final.
Is straight-setted in the first round by Lepchenko.
Sloane Stephens won the US Open.
Loses 2 and 2 n the first round.

Wtf is happening.

Kerber looking good? She had one good tournament last week. She's still had a shocker of a year.
Keys, well apparently she had an injury (I wasn't watching but apparently the umpire said something like if it's too painful, you know what to do)
Sloane, well she lost to a home player but still, not exactly a good look.

Eh, I'm not surprised with Keys and Stephens' results. USO ended two weeks ago. One is trying to rebound from the most painful loss in her career (and is apparently somewhat physically hindered), while the other one is still celebrating her biggest (and unexpected) career title. We all had that school exam, where more than half of our class is supposed to flunk hard, but somehow we survived through the damn thing. It takes time to regain focus.
