Short & sweet since play starts in about 45 minutes.

Draw

Never been a fan of the 32 byes. Aryna & JPeg lead the way.

Anisimova move up the draw as seed? She's in the draw.
Unless I’m blind, she ain’t anymore. This is what I saw last night right before her match was scheduled.

Spectators would be nice! Kenin and Bogdan had practically none, never-forget-to-grunt Italian and 'Nobodyhomi' a couple here and there. Still Beijing has population of 22 million which is as much as say whole Czech Republic and Belgium combined!!!

There's no grounds for any byes. It's all just making the life of rich and successful even easier and handing them unearned money (of which up and coming players should get at least half). So I'm a fan of zero byes-tournaments.

the nobody wang. old wang lost yesterday. 2 more to go with 1 wang through yesterday.

Anybody chinese? interested to know if the chinese character for them are all the same.

Also funny when this rare feat happens.

Kim Birrell beat Rakhimova in the final round of qualifying in 3 sets 48 hours ago.

Rakhimova got into the main draw as a lucky loser and got drawn to play Birrell 1R. But this time she gets the win.

Took almost 14 years to have a main draw match go over 4 hours when Siegemund beat Wang last week in Thailand.

Now it’s happened again, Sorribes Tormo beats Gao in 4 hours and 15 minutes. The 4th longest WTA match in the open era.

Only in tennis... and it just feels so wrong. They need to make a rule against this or something.

The real question on my mind: how sweaty did Cocciaretto get?

4 & 2 in 76 minutes for Zhang.
Women.
This was a pretty shocking result, even by WTA standards.

Shnaider easy over Kenin.
Shnaider seems to be one of the most consistent players right now. Not quite at the top level, but brings a quite good level to just about every match. Will be interesting if she can take another step forward.

4 & 4 for Boulter over Townsend.
Townsend is another mystery. There must be some type of player/style that really baffles her or something. Either that, or she simply doesn't show up consistently.

DasKa beat Fett.

Jasmine survives in 3. Quite the size difference.

Mertens up a break in the decider against Cocciaretto.

Osorio took the first from Amanda.

Boulter/Kalinskaya have withdrawn from doubles. Not clear yet who, if anyone, has a problem.

Can't imagine it's busy scheduling. You'd think both would have anticipated the possiblility of reaching last 32 of singles.

what a surprise, they were able to complete the rain delayed matches, it had to be close to midnight when they finished.
