She's still favourite against all of them but if I should rank

1. Muchova (beat her in twice last year)
2. Badosa (Always a tight matches)
3. Qinwen (Home boost)
4. Andreeva
5. Gauff
6. Staro
I'd have to put Andreeva and Gauff above Qinwen. I understand home boost and we see it often with the Chinese players but Sabalenka has easily handled Zheng in all 3 matches, especially this years. Andreeva meanwhile beat Sabs at the French and of course Coco beat her in the US Final. Both were Sabalenka chokes but they've at least won matches over her, Zheng hasn't even pinched a set.

This is pathetic by Coco.

Got one break back and then regifts it. The Ukrainian now serving for the set up 5-2.

Coco already at 7 double faults. Guess it wasn't Brad that was the issue, it's Coco.

The Ukrainian takes it 6-2. Holds to love. Yikes.

Fair, but Zheng has been taken to school against Iga on HC this year and somehow beat her in Olympic clay!

I agree, tennis is all about match up, Zheng can beat Andreeva or Gauff, but currently she has no answer to Sabalenka, everything she can do, Sabalenka can do it better, her power game doesn't bother Salalenka at all, Zheng's serve can be a weapon but a lot times she can't find it, like their previous meetings, Zheng couldn't find her serve and the match was quickly over for her.

Badosa and Muchova teamed up for doubles, they won their first match but pulled out before the second round, guess who is angry here? :sneaky:

It's like some singles players use doubles for back up, in case they lose. It's a bad look. The good singles players who are good at doubles don't pull out often. Gauff. Pegula, Ostapenko, and others usually play their doubles match too..

Is it a positive that Gauff is getting through these matches using tenacity alone? Or is this outweighed by the fact that her game is in such disarray?

actually it's a good attribute that many girls lack, it doesn't matter how sh1tty or how good you game is, it's the result that matters, a win is a win!

If Sabalenka can win this title she'll be just 281 points behind the #1 ranking.

Swiatek missing this week really hurt her as she's dropping 1100 points.

Neither player has points defending at Wuhan next week but Sabalenka is the 2x defending champion and loves it there having won back in 2018 and 2019 when the tournament was held before Wuhan became more known for Covid!

Horses for courses as they say. Muchova has beaten Sabaenka three times in last 15 months or so. All of them great matches but she is certainly proving a bad match up at moment for Sabalenka.

didn't watch but based on the scoreboard, it seems Salalenka lost the match because she "panicked", this seems to be the plot against her now, bring her to the decider, she cracked under pressure, she is beatable!

I'm pulling for Muchova to win it all now. But if Gauff wins, that's fine too.

Muchova showed serious tenacity today. She was down a break on two different occasions in the 3rd set, only to roar back to take the match. That was one heck of a match that she played against Sabalenka.

How is every so-called tennis fan on this site not watching this Sabalenka-Muchova match ?
Well, that match was happening around 4:00 a.m. my time while I was asleep, but I recorded it and just finished watching it.

I didn't really see any panic from Sabalenka. It was pretty close until 4-4 in the third and then Muchova just ran away with it by winning the last 8 points of the match, much more by Muchova playing well than Sabalenka playing awful.

I'm also rooting for Muchova to win the title. Her game is just such a pleasure to watch.

but I think that's the definition of "panicked" lol

I hope we can find the replay of the entire match, we all know Muchova has the variety and the tenacity, but there is something from her game that just bothered Sabalenka.

How is Gauff playing after her US Open issues (serve, forehand) and after getting rid of Gilbert?
Not seen any of her matches this week but I heard she's got a new coach who specialises in grip changes and they've started making minor adjustments. I'd expect something bigger over the off season but really unsure how much can be achieved in that time. You would expect 3-6 months minimum? Not an expert though so just a guess.

Great comeback win for gauff over mrs tsitsipassdosa after being down a set and 2-4. Played more aggressively.
First final since Auckland at the beginning of the year, so it was really time to part with gilbert. She needs a technical coach, not a dude talk coach.

Supposedly "serve" is also one of their first priority. If one is rooting for Coco, it's hard to watch her rallies because her FH can just suddenly break down in the middle of rallies. I wonder if that extreme grip might be tough for her wrist in the long run.

funny, some tennis gurus in Poland think Iga should ask Gibert to be her new coach.

Iga was a relative nobody before she started with her coach. Then she won smth like 18 titles in a couple of dominant years working with him. Just going by the results, she should continue with him, and add another consulting coach for some new inputs (like novak had at times).

Shows just how good of a player Muchova is that she's actually the betting favourite for this final despite being #49 in the world while Gauff is #6 and a slam champ.
