Seven (7) of the top-10 players are skipping Toronto. Well, six (6) if we're excluding Collins who's supposedly retiring. Last year Toronto had all but one top-10 players skipping.

What happened to Harriet Dart? Up a set and down 0-2 in the breaker in the 2nd and she retires.
Supposedly went off in a wheelchair but only with cramps. I wonder if it was a hot day and her body suddenly failed in the heat (?). Hopefully nothing worse than that.

Doesn't feel like a W1000 with all the withdrawals. I bet the organisers of this absolutely hate Olympic year. Feels more like Washington Mark 2.

Potapova (Poutypova) is a hoot to watch. Every time she loses a point she yells at her box. It's comical. Mental midget.

I thought I was seeing doubles. Well, it's doubles match after all. The Fernandez sisters (Bianca/Leylah) are playing doubles together using WC as Bianca's rank is definitely too low to enter a WTA1000 doubles main draw.

The Fernandez sisters are giving the #5 seed Schuurs/Stefani a run for their money. Closed the 1st set at 6-2, leading 4-1 at some point.

Very poor umpiring in the Andreeva vs Stakusic match. Andreeva getting ready to receive, insects (bees?) flew around Andreeva before Stakusic served. Andreeva started standing straight up abandoning her ready position and started squatting the insects away while raising her left arm to signal "hold, not ready". Then, Stakusic's serve arrive to Andreeva and Andreeva casually just tap it away. Umpire gave the point to Stakusic and also claiming didn't see Andreeva's signal to hold. It's not Andreeva's fault that Umpire didn't see. Replay clearly showed Andreeva getting bothered and shooing away the insects. Argued briefly with umpire - umpire is adamant, won't budge. Andreeva turn around started crying and eventually turned around ready for the next point. Extremely poor umpiring.

Why can't tennis start reviewing such thing - even with automated line call - as this is not a line call.

Wait, but I only thought these things happened to Coco Gauff? How is it possible that just one week later it is happening to another player (that is nothing like her)? No way!

And these players also need to deal with this stuff a little better. Bad calls are, unfortunately, a reality in many sports, but most athletes seem better at dealing with it and moving on. Was that one point really so crucial? Could she not have gotten over it?

Quite a lot of UEs from Jabeur. Not a very exciting or competitive match to watch.
Jabeur has been pretty ridiculous all year. There have been maybe a handful of matches (at most) where she has shown up ready to play, focused and in decent form. The rest has been, frankly, an insult to the people watching. Just totally checked out. Anyone know what her ranking will be by the end of the year if she doesn't have a big run at a masters or the USO?

It's funny, this will be the 7th career meeting between Osaka and Mertens. With Osaka leading 4-2.

Osaka meanwhile has only played Sabalenka once, Swiatek 3 times, Pegula twice. Never played Rybakina.

Only played Barty 4 times and Serena 4 times in their careers.

Osaka has a better rivalry with Elise than she does most of the tour.
