This thread won't get much action with the Olympics going on, but some pretty good names are showing up. Play begins Monday morning.

Draw

Aryna/Kasatkina/Samsonova/Jabeur are top 4 with R1 byes.

Badosa v. Kenin & Anisimova v. Sloane could be fun.

Pliskova/Vika/Emma/Stearns/Pavs also entered.

Genie is playing doubles with Sloane.

Pavs & Dolehide won 3-set battles, Yafan Wang bageled Karolina in the 3rd, Rogers/Montgomery interrupted by weather.

Genie/Sloane doubles scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Sloane playing against her usual partner Krueger... All a bit odd! Is this a one off appearance for old time's sake for Eugenie?

She's always played DC for whatever reason, probably one of the sponsors.

She has a singles qualie WC upcoming in Toronto too.

We're still at the stage I think where any WTA main draw victory is precious for Emma - hopefully we soon transition to the stage where they become routine and pretty much taken for granted.

It looked like a messy win for Emma , in sharp contrast to her one sided victory over Mertens at Wimbledon a few weeks ago, with her level declining sharply after the opening set, and both players hitting significantly more UES than winners (29-47 for Emma and 27-56 for Mertens). But at least Emma fought hard to come through

She says she struggled with jetlag during the 2nd and 3rd sets because she only arrived in Washington a day or so before.

Say what??

Why not get there a few days earlier and prepare properly? It's been 3 weeks since her last game.

How the hell is this clown Tiafoe ranked #29? He barely strings together two wins. Three wins only twice since last USO. Where the hell do his points come from?

Raducanu quietly going about her business, taking out Stearns in straights. Messy performance in Set 1, much better in Set 2. She's gone QF-R1-SF-QF-4R-QF in her last 6 events. Top 70 by the end of the week in the live rankings and almost into the top 40 race.

I'm not sure if it's the conditions or her coach, but Stearns used to be a lot more aggressive from the back of the court. She's become a bit passive, which is crazy given the top 10 forehand that she has.

Yeah the consistency has been good from her recently. The next goal has to be securing auto entry to W1000 events (top 50?).

The rain delay meant I had to go to bed last night with the score at 5-4 15-30. It was nice to see the result in the morning.

Badosa/Samsonova will be a difficult one next.

I think the cut-off for Toronto was just above the top 40, so with the 64-player 1000 events, she'll probably need a few more points for DE into those right now.

Montgomery gets to chill tonight.

Poor Anisimova. Really has the game and physical predisposition but clearly not right in the head. Probably gonna retire by her mid 20s

Hoping for a Sabalenka v Badosa final! Would love to see Badosa beat her friend but Sabalenka is so tough.
