There's a new story that says Zheng had words with Fernandez's box and then words directly with Fernandez during their recent match. It was not friendly. Conflicts with Fernandez, Navarro, and Collins just in the past few months.
Where there's smoke.....
What happened with Collins? They've never played one another.

No, but they probably expect her to not pick fights with every player on tour and be rude. It’s pretty clear what type of person Zheng is here.
Why should QZ just roll over for a parent who can't stop gobbing off from the players box? It's no more obnoxious than Danimal Collins' speeches whenever she feels aggrieved. Some players just take no BS and yeah it'll be debatable as to who's in the wrong but in this case it's clear Fernandez needs a little help in her matches given her results of the past 3 years. If he's going to chirp up and distract Zheng she's got every right to make an issue of it. Should she have spoken to the umpire? Most probably and hopefully she will in the future but she's on home turf and has the crowd on her side so I'm not surprised she probably had tactical ideas in mind to disturb Fernandez in retaliation - fair game if your parents is doing it on your behalf. I've got no sympathy for either in this regard but it clearly worked against Fernandez and she's not obliged act 'demure' as some have mentioned, she probably sees herself more as a warrior on the court and good for her.

Yikes. Donna Vekic even "liked" this tweet by a poster which said "not surprising why players in the locker room don't like her" in reference to Zheng Qinwen.

Donna being sly who'd have thought? She will likely have to accept her biggest success was a Gold medal match loss to QZ who solidified herself as a Chinese sporting legend by winning Gold. The fact there are so many riches to be had associated with being a top Chinese athlete and how it's probably the most lucrative nation to win gold for probably irks a lot of players.

The Donna that think Qinween is rude.

19 DF for Gauff!
Absolute mayhem. To think she would have won this match already had she not been so chaotic. I really think they could have taken the rest of the season off to confront the issues she's having. I'm not sure a standard off season will be enough time to make many purposeful adaptions to her game and mindset.

On a more positive note I really like the New Balance she's rocking.

Sabalenka beat Gauff 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
A match that at times displayed great play from both. Gauff amazing returns (keeping Sabalenka's 1st serve point win at 61%) is overshadowed by her DF woes, which aptly end the match with it.

gauff could have won that in straight but double faulted that match away. Doesn't matter who her coach is she is going to have to fix that herself mentally.

LoL at the headbutt handshake hug.

Addressing the crowd Sabalenka thanks Qinwen for winning the Olympic Gold and boosting tennis popularity even further in China. Seems not everyone is salty towards Qinwen, although it may be Sabalenka's H2H against her talking.
Hopefully we get QZ v Sabalenka tomorrow. I am concerned QZ will struggle to play a compatriot today, especially as she's the favourite, but I feel Wang would freeze against Sabalenka in a big final given she's never played such a final before, and the home pressure would be heavy. I could be wrong but those are my gut feelings.

As much as people may disagree with the Chinese government (what happened to Peng Shuai?) it's good for tenni$ to have a rising star from china. Yes, Q zheng is a diva but so are lot of the other top tennis players.

2 aces and an unreturnable serve to end the match for Zheng. 6-3 6-4 over compatriot Wang Xinyu. In doing so, Zheng is the first Chinese player to reach a 1000 final in China.

Coco Gauff has now learned how to hit the Reverse forehand of Nadal. This is very evident in today's match against Sabalenka. this means she will likely win the Grand slam of calendar year in 2025

Crowd are roaring for Zheng.

Easy to forget though that Sabalenka is undefeated in Wuhan. She is 16-0 having won in 2018 and 2019.

Let's go Sabs. Smoke this!

Sabalenka takes the first set.

A win here today would put her just 69 points behind Swiatek for the #1 ranking. She's well clear in the race rankings though. It looks like it'll all come down to the WTA Finals for the year end #1.

Even a set in this final would be a success for Zheng. Sabalenka is the best hard court player on tour by a significant margin winning 3 of the last 4 HC majors. Really interesting to see this match being played in China. The crowd are absolutely raucous for Zheng. When did Sabalenka last experience this? 2023 USO vs Gauff? 2024 vs Pegula? The likes of Swiatek, Rybakina etc she always plays on neutral turf.

Similar with Gauff '23 I'd say. Zheng has chance to grab the 2nd set especially if she grab this game.

Absolutely love them sledge hammer strokes from Sabalenka. As much as I dislike the grunting sometimes it's so satisfying to see how clean she can thump the ball through the court. Comparatively really fun seeing Zheng try to go toe to toe, give herself more time with the slices but also strike when given a sniff at offense.

This one game will tell the match I think.

Already at deuce number 6! Four break points have come and gone for Zheng.

If Sabs holds, she'll get it in straights but if Zheng breaks. I think she wins in 3.

It will be a real shame if this doesn't go to a 3rd, just from a tennis stand point. It's also great to see what the top top players can do under adversity, and this crowd combined with Zheng's ability to win in 3/from a set down would be interesting to observe.

Any news on whether Swiatek or Rybakina will play YEC? I see no upcoming tournaments for either of them. The YEC is so lucrative they may well attend but I wonder how rusty they'll be after missing the Asia swing?
I'm hoping we get Sabalenka, Gauff and Zheng in the same YEC group, maybe alongside Krejcikova just so Krejcikova has to earn everything with her free pass into the event (Wimbledon W was an earned win but she's done nothing outside of that win and the AO QF in Jan).

Iga will in all likelihood play the WTA Finals. Elena? No one knows for now, she doesn't communicate much, I've read that the Kazakhstan's federation is still looking for a new coach for her. Two weeks ago or so she posted Insta stories where she was attending a birthday party, and one where she was in Kazakhstan's mountains with horses. It looks like she really needs/needed to unwind and to recover after parting ways with Vukov (we still don't know for sure what happened with him). As a big fan I'd like her to play, but what matters the most for now is her physical and mental health.

And there we have it, Zheng wins her first ever set against Sabalenka 7-5. In sets Sabalenka leads their H2H 7-1 so that's pretty huge for Zheng even if she goes on to lose this match.
Also, these two have only ever met at GSs (2x USO, 1x AO) and at a 1000 (here in Wuhan). It's quite odd that they never met early in tournaments when Zheng was ranked lower the past few years.
