I was pretty happy that Raducanu lost to Krejcikova. I personally didn't want her to do well in Seoul, after she chose to play in that tournament instead of in the BJK Cup finals.
I defended her last year, after I thought there was a hysterical overreaction (especially in the UK) to her withdrawal from Wimbledon mixed doubles with Murray. Many of the people piling in to criticise her then, probably had no idea that their 1st round mixed doubles match was supposed to be scheduled for the 2nd Monday, before the organisers moved it 48 hours earlier to try to shamelessly milk the Murray farewell even more.
What she should have been criticised for last summer, was opting not to play in qualifiers for Toronto and Cincinnati and instead returning to the UK, which unsurprisingly received very little attention in comparison.
Yes I know that tennis is a tough individual sport, and that she received a sizeable appearance fee for playing in Seoul. But I just couldn't get on board with this scheduling decision at all. When she was really struggling to win matches on the regular tour, she was largely saving her best performances for the BJK Cup (notably vs. France last year), and looked to really enjoy the team environment.
