56-player field, top 8 with byes. No Aryna.

Draw

Stearns got a WC, not sure I understand that one.

Krejcikova & Badosa withdrew, Sierra & Frech take their spots.

Play begins Sunday morning.

Just noticed Dabrowski and Routliffe have disbanded their doubles team and got new partners. Bit odd after winning the US Open(?).

Bepa qualified, gets Peyton first. That's a funny matchup, 41-year old qualifier v. 24-year old WC.

WTA's official twitter posted this about 6 hours ago. Way to be on top of things.

Monday’s action, first in about 90.

Qinwen is back, she couldn’t have asked for a much better draw.

British Emma will likely quit, America Emma needs to pull her head out.

muchova looked in form crushing hottie cristian

kenin playing qinwen zheng
is this qinwen first match of season?

Eala will be stuck in mid territory without a big serve to get free points

Caro’s partner in that clip is Sorana, who has withdrawn from Doha.

Tjen gets BHM instead.
Surprised that Cirstea withdrew from Doha and Raducanu played it. Maybe Sorana wants to enjoy her home victory for a few days before heading to Dubai early?

Great to see Gauff and Mboko playing doubles together in Doha - I had no idea it was on the cards but they're not far apart in age so it makes sense. It'll be good for Mboko to partner with a recent major champ, maybe she will absorb some aspects of Gauff's mentality.

What was Anisimova's injury?

Kinda concerned about her, when things aren't going her way she looks like she's about to break down emotionally (in the AO then here too).

Was looking for big things this year...
Took her blood pressure. Seemed to be OK. Then, got an MTO and was having her abdomen massaged. She was getting gassed. Nothing too serious.
Pliskova was playing well.

Well, I called British Emma.

America Emma finally mixed in a win.

3 whole games for Sofia in the final 2 sets, sheesh.

Sakkari smoked Sonmez.

Mirra handled Linette in straights.

Tuesday’s action, little over an hour.

Bepa v. Mboko is quite the age difference. Then we have all-Ukraine & Czech battles.

How will Elena appear after all the recent fun?

She seems to be the female Rublev. Suddenly destructs, starts lamenting.

Gauff’s second serve is so poor that Cocciaretto has won 78% of her 2nd serves.

I do not understand how she is top 5 with a reigning slam and has not worked on her serve. At least the double faults aren’t in the double digits like they were last year but my god.

I fell asleep, woke up to this...wow

Ok, what the actual f---? How is Alexandrova ranked #10? What has she done lately? I can't even remember seeing her name anywhere last year?

(Yes, I know she did well in some tiny event last week, but still..)

She can be the girl who holds the sign boards in a boxing match.
She's too short for that...

I said this in the AO thread. She has been working on it. A LOT. And for a couple of years now I think, or at least the past few months with that specialist guy.

It's clearly between her ears, and so far they haven't found a way to overcome that problem. Seems like Sabalenka managed it, and Zverev too for the most part, so it's possible.

Just noticed Dabrowski and Routliffe have disbanded their doubles team and got new partners. Bit odd after winning the US Open(?).

Erin broke it off, and Asia is apparently her best friend on tour so they're playing together.
They won US Open, but they kinda struggled much of the year together -- not their usual selves at least.
Gabi has been doing a bit better so far this year, and playing with Stefani -- whose doubles partner retired.

So Sabalenka and Pegula didn't turn up, and now Gauff, Paolini, and Anisimova are all out before the last 16. A few opportunities for people here..

Edit - bottom.of the draw is still very stacked; Andreeva, Mboko, Zheng, and Rybakina fighting over just 1 quarter final spot!
