WTA 500 Dubai Tennis Championships 2022 (Duty Free Tennis Championships)

Big tournament as 7 top 10 are in the draw, along with multiple slams champions Azarenka, Halep & Kvitova.
Tournament defending champion is another multi slams champion Muguruza. Dubai was a WTA 1000 last year.

This tourney has fallen hard & fast. Hopefully something halfway decent happens this week to garner some interest.

Halep with the comfortable win.

Kvitova handed Giorgi quite a beatdown.

shucks, Badosa as a newly minted top ten, seems to attract grueling matches seeming to somehow help raise the level of her opponents.
But then again Badosa is not at her level at IW last year, her 1st serve isn't as strong as before, and seemed sluggish like she just woke up! for the match in the first set..

lucky break of serve for Badosa, when she worked hard on trying to break Ruse's previous service game but failed.. Ruse, some inopportune errors.

Ruse came back from two breaks down to win third set and the match 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. Good form and clean hitting in the last games. Powerful forehand and amazing at 8 cm shorter than Badosa.

Shucks about Badosa, her energy and form seemed off throughout. Often messy footwork on defense and seemed too often a step behind. Not hitting as deep or aggressive like she did to match Azarenka at IW.
She could drop down from no. 5 to 6 or lower with this 1st round loss. Hope it's not a portentous sign for the rest of her season.

Azarenka and Kudertemova up next. Followed by Danielle Collins and Vondrousova.

Have a good morning.

Krejcikoca looks absolute garbage today. Missed so many simple rally balls
When she gets into UE mode it really looks awful. Happens to pretty much all of the girls on the one hand, but with Krej it's like you said, normal rally balls that she just can't find the court with. See her spray stuff long, wide, into the net, everywhere but the court. Yastremska is a dangerous though.

Damn...thought about using a free bet on this one actually. Didn't trust Krejcikova.

The speed of these courts annoy the hell out of me. I didn't notice it so much when Federer was winning all those titles here (8?) lol. Now though, trying to watch as a neutral, it's just an eyesore watching shots nowhere near the corners whizz past the opponent.

Is Doha slower? Can't remember.

Dang, Petra really wasted her chance when she failed to serve for the match.

Ostapenko with the momentum into the third set.
