WTA Indian Wells 2025

Big win for Andreeva, and she is finally starting to realize her considerable potential. I predicted top 10 for her last year, so it took just a few more months, but watching her play you can clearly see such a great foundation to build on.

Comparing her to Gauff, the other player to have some recent success at a relatively young age, her fundamentals are so much better.

I don't know, when she loses, it's usually a very unspectacular and limp effort. Sometimes she looks super solid and consistent, while other times she is just lethargic and underpowered. She's one of those players that can look good, and then suddenly throw in a strangely poor performance.

She doesn't always hit hard, but power is in her arsenal if she decides to use it.

I was watching, but turned off during one of the rain delays. But Andreeva was looking really good. Hitting her spots and toying with Rybakina a little bit. And Rybakina is still just too inconsistent most of the time.
I think even one of us can beat Rybakina on her off days. For a Wimbledon winner she has fallen so far down the hole.
The person who can become a power player but chooses not to is Emma(Navarro). She has a powerful forehand. Just don't know why she does not use it much.

Mirra is probably not a typical "hard hitter" like Sabalenka is. I think what makes Andreeva special are: shots redirection, precision, movement/agility, tactical, strategic. Her mental strength and calmness is getting better too. She used to fall apart when she's down on a set. Much tougher competitor now. Hopefully she continues her rise to the top.
From what I see she can anticipate and predict her opponents next steps very well, her ability to read the opponents game is quite phenomenal.
When I was watching latest Kasatkina’s video I also noticed that she grew up a lot. She’s taller now and it definitely helps her serve.

Indian Wells QF's:

(1) Sabalenka v (24) Samsonova
(WC) Bencic v (5) Keys

(9) Andreeva v (23) Svitolina
(8) Zheng v (2) Swiatek

5 of the top 10.
Reigning US Open champ Sabs, Aus Open champ Keys, French Open champ Iga and Olympic Gold Medalist Zheng. Plus the recent Dubai champ Andreeva, returning Mums who are crushing it Bencic & Svitolina and then the very good Samsonova.

Great lineup.

Samsonova is a royal pain for Sabs, the h2h is 2-2 and Samsonova always gives her trouble.

Bencic could beat Keys, Keys almost crashed against Vekic. Keys however could easily kick into her lights out mode and thrash her. Their h2h is also, ironically, 2-2 so this could do either way. On paper it should be keys, but Bencic has been playing some of the best tennis of her career these last few months.

Andreeva has been hot lately, but Svitolina plays a bit of a different game from folks like Pegula. Svitolina just ended the win streak of 1 recent titlist, can she make it a second? Its a bit of clash of in form youth vs veteran experience.

Zheng beat Swiatek en route to gold, but before that Swiatek had never lost to her. Swiatek is looking to win a 3rd IW title (which would make history). Pressure is on Iga. Iga however just ran a clinic against Muchova and Zheng might be next.

Definitely an interesting line up

I think Bencic will beat Keys, and I actually think it will be fairly comfortable. She is playing well (her match against Gauff shouldn't have even been three sets), and in my opinion Keys had that look of someone on a long winning streak that is getting tight at the thought of having it broken.

Andreeva is indeed playing very well lately, and I think she will have too much for Svitolina. And I hope she does, because Andreeva coming to the fore could be a great story for the WTA.

And then we have two players that are the opposite of Andreeva, in that neither is very likable. I expect both Zheng and Swiatek to in their usual arrogant and unpleasant moods, so hopefully they will get on each other's nerves and make it interesting.

Yep. I think this is where Bencic's run ends. It will be interesting to see how Mirra handles Svitolina. Zheng will beat Swiatek if her serve holds. Sabs might wobble I feel an upset coming.

Not sure about this one. If I were her I'd be feeling like I'm playing with house money. As in "win or lose, don't care, I got that slam!"

Zheng not looking good at all. Rough start to the season.

I think the insane pressure on her, is getting to her. I'm not in China, but I imagine that after making a major final and winning Olympic gold, there are a LOT of media expectations and possibly governmental pressures, to try and meet.

For sure.

Iga has broke her from 40-0 twice today.

And just broke Qinwen at love for the match.

Andreeva brings already a pretty complete game to the table, overall a very fine win over Svitolina.

Wow, really surprised that Bencic got beaten so badly by Keys. I know Madison is on a big run, but maybe there is some matchup problem to make it so one-sided?

QZ begging for a rain delay, this is pretty sad. Chair knows it too.
Zero sportsmanship.
This is embarrassing, play the sport.
See above. There is a reason nobody likes Zheng.

Did Coco play passive or tight in the 3rd hitting back shots in the middle waiting for a mistake? Just wondering
She was her usual self, chasing everything down and trying to force her opponent to eventually miss. Threw in a few big serves (and just as many DF's), and only got somewhat aggressive at times with her backhand.

She clearly still lacks confidence in her forehand. Whenever it mattered, she was tentative and either hitting slow, high loopy balls, or taking all the speed off and barely clearing the net. So yes, in that sense she was passive on that wing.
