I think Bertens might take this.

She's great on clay, having a few less big names in the draw will help her, and I also think she will benefit from a smaller crowd making her feel less anxiety / pressure.

Thanks for doing the thread, busy day on my end.

Will be good to see Halep play too. Played just the one tournament upon tour resumption and she won that title.

Excited to see how certain players are on clay currently.

Juicy 1R:
Azarenka vs Venus
Muguruza vs Stephens
Jabeur vs Gauff
Lots of juicy matches as you mention, also:
Mertens v Hsieh (always dangerous)
Kontaveit v Garcia (Garcia of course just beat Pliskova at the USO while Konteveit has played very well since the tour has returned with a final, QF and 4R)
Kerber v Siniakova (Kerber's never been good on clay and Siniakova knocked Osaka out at last year's French Open, potential upset on the cards there)
Vekic v Anisimova (Vekic made the French 4R last year beating Bencic while Anisimova made the RG SF with wins over Sabalenka and Halep(!))
Giorgi v Yastremska (This one mostly cause Dayana split from Baijin and Giorgi has a history playing in Italy).

Kerber/Siniakova and Vekic/Anisimova particularly interesting as all 4 players made storylines on the clay at least years French Open and this is the largest clay tournament since then.

I should have taken a look at the draw before picking Bertens. She has landed an awful draw and will have to be sharp from the first match. 2r against Swiatek, too.

Vekic vs Anisimova is an interesting one.

Anisimova has a game that works well on clay in the non-traditional sense. the surface gives her a good high bounce, and a little extra time to setup for her shots. That bit of extra help allows her to apply that elegant power game to pretty devastating effect and she can hit through the slower court in a way that other players can't.

It would be nice to see Vekic hold Anisimova off, have a good Rome tournament and then setup for another good RG run.

Halep won on clay most recently, so I expect her to do well here. Bertens must surely be well prepared also given she didn't travel to the USO?
I'd like to see the winner of Mugu v Sloane do well but both are extreme liabilities when it comes to where their heads are at. I hope the players generally have enough time to prepare for RG and out on a good show there.
I am very eager to know whether Serena shows up for RG - I don't see why she wouldn't seeing as this as an opportunity as RG doesn't seem to have a straight up favourite with players like Osaka and Azarenka, Kvitova, obviously being dangerous, not having had their best results at RG. I appreciate her health concerns but surely she can be put in an extremely tight 'bubble' as you were.
Ons Jabeur has some great variety - it'll be good to see what she can do here also, presuming she's in some kind of decent form. I'm not totally aware of her past clay results but Barty did well last year, and players like Henin and Schiavone with variety have too.

Serena considers to withdraw from French Open for safety reason. French Open so far has mandatory hotels for the players to stay in but will sell ticket on reduced capacity. Due to her lung issue, she might withdrew unless players are allowed to stay on their private accomodation.

Pretty good draw for Pliskova to defend her title although it's so hard to gauge where the players are on the surface of clay since we've barely had any tournaments in several months,

Pliskova lost easily to Garcia at the USO but who knows what Rome brings?

Anyway her draw:
1R bye
2R: Strycova/Kudermetova
3R: #13 Riske or some qualifiers
QF: Bencic/Ostapenko/Hsieh/Mertens
SF: Bertens/Vondrousova/Kontaveit/Garcia/Svitolina
F: Halep/Kenin/Vika/Kerber/Muguruza/etc

the French open should just follow the protocold of the us open or else it could be a disaster

Riske/Bolsova are almost 3 hours deep. This outer court looks really weird without fans because of the red clay against the white/gray stands.

And Ali’s kit is awful.

Kerber v Siniakova (Kerber's never been good on clay and Siniakova knocked Osaka out at last year's French Open, potential upset on the cards there)

And Siniakova thrashes Kerber 6-3 6-1, not a surprise despite what people may think.

Kerber lost in the 1R of last year's RG (on clay) despite having a chance at being #1 while Siniakova who was the #1 doubles player in the world knocked out Rybakina, Sakkari and then #1 Osaka..

Ha, Bepa just had a mini old school breakdown after MP of her 2 & 2 loss to DasKa. That will be on Twitter shortly.
