I've never seen someone fall for so many drop shots. Vondrousova completely owned Svitolina with the same shot over and over, she didn't have an answer for it, most of them were to the backhand side.

9 W/26 UE, 0/9 BP, strong.

My money is on Muguruza to win it all. She's in winning form. I wish Halep would win but.... Muguruza has the first chance here IMO.

Glad my gut feeling was wrong and Halep got it done although she kept me on the edge of the seat in the third.

Hopefully she has what it takes this time around to finally lift the trophy here so she can complete Roma-Madrid-Paris triumvirate.

We’re blessed with a great #1 Halep v #2 Pliskova final in Rome which means at the French Open we’ll get some wild matches deep in the tournament.

Halep and Pliskova will be an amazing final! It’s so difficult to call this one. Halep runs down EVERYTHING! Pliskova depending on which one shows up, has all the potential to take it. If I had to call it. I think Halep will win, she’s amazing on clay.

Almost glad Muguruza lost, she can prepare for RG.

Meanwhile Svitolina who made the QF in Rome is playing Strasbourg which is just an international?

I can understand Bertens and Sabalenka as Bertens lost early in Rome while Sabalenka didn’t play so they match play but Svitolina doesn’t. Can’t see her winning the French Open or making a SF.

Hsieh/Strycova won doubles, their first pairing back together since the restart.

Singles final @ 8:30 am Eastern.

Halep has come to play. Up the double break 3-0.

It's so exciting to see who's going to win the French Open.

Can Halep add slam #3? Can Serena break her hoodoo? Can we get another surprise winner? Can one of the women who have evaded a slam like Svitolina, Bertens or Pliskova finally push through? Last years champ Barty out along with Andreescu and Osaka. So many stories to come.

If Halep wins the title today she overtakes Azarenka for most career titles out of the active players with 22 career titles.

Both currently are on 21.

Wow.

Simona Halep bagels Karolina Pliskova 6-0 in the first set of the Rome final.

20 minute first set.

Pliskova had just given up by that final point. Halep looking so good and Pliskova just... stunned out there.

I hope we see this Halep at RG.

If Halep pulls it off, along with winning in Rome today, she's back to #1. I had assumed Barty was just too far ahead for anyone to catch her.

Think you might have the wrong info? Halep would still be at leat 1400+ points behind Barty.

Ash doesn't lose any points from skipping the USO/RG etc. She essentially has #1 locked up til year end.

WTA rules were you keep your best result at a tournament from 2019 or 2020. So it benefited Barty.

Simona Halep wins her 8th WTA Premier 5/Mandatory title over Pliskova 6-0 2-1.

Interesting match, interesting tournament, interesting year.

Halep now has 22 career titles overtaking Azarenka.

Tied 6th most hard court Premier 5/Mandatory titles along with Seles, Clijsters and Wozniacki and ahead of Hingis, Sanchez, Radwanska and Kvitova)

Pliskova retires wow.
Any idea what's wrong with her? I presume no apparent physical ailment - maybe a sickness? Or just pure shock from the 1st set beat down?

Congrats to Halep - that SF W over Mugu in 3 was big and I felt she would handle Pliskova with more ease to be frank.

I'm really looking forward to RG now! Hoping we get some big clashes - I'd like to see Halep v Azarenka and Mugu v Serena.

She had something touched up around her lower abdomen area if I remember quickly but was switching between streams. Honestly didn't seem all that genuine in that I wouldn't expect her to withdraw from RG but I could be wrong, it all happened rather fast.

I think it's her lower back
