PSA: Bertens-Keys just started

...with a break at love by Bertens. Eh?

Oh, and a break back by Keys, I forgot, this is the WTA!

Hmm, I'm out for a bit, three breaks, and Bertens breakpoint down in game 4.

Update: Bertens serving at 5-4 first set. I predict the next update will report 5-5.

Edit: prediction failed, Bertens' serve did not. 6-4 Bertens.

Second set, Bertens breaks to go up 6-5. Now all she needs to do is hold. :D

Fun stat from a few games back: a total of 72 UE between the two of them, aka 18 games worth..

Last time I checked score, keys was up 3*-1 in second set. Just checked again, and it’s now 5-5 (15-40). Bertens will serve it out.

Yeah, nice comeback that. Still, it's still very possible that either of these ladies breaks Bertens' serve.

Edit: as I was saying...

Dear lord, Bertens could have pushed that mid court shot down the line for the win, instead she pushed the ball to Keys' forehand like they were doing volley practice together..

I really should be watching that Ferru Kohli match

Is anyone else seeing this? I just tuned in at 6*-5 second set; Bertens serving it out. She hasn’t missed a single first serve since 6*-5. Even when she lost the set in the TB, she still hasn’t missed a single first serve. This has to be some kind of record right?!

Here we go again, tiebreak! Last time Bertens got 2 points, can she do better this time?

Edit: Bertens equals her set 2 result: 2 points already!

Bertens takes it!

Fittingly it ended on an UE by Keys. Some really great narrow margin play in the tiebreak though, that was cool. Glad I tuned back in for the end. Also happy Bertens won. Now time for a few hours of rest and get ready for the final Kiki!

Bertens escapes again after facing match point. Some nice points but so.. many.. errors!

Don’t know if Bertens got lucky or if keys just choked. Imagine people betting Bertens 2-1. It was +500. Unfortunately I took Keys to win 2-1. The frustration of watching her fail to serve it out twice. Another tough loss to start off this Sunday.

Definitely not a clean match!

I always usually are a fan of U.S. players but I just not that impress by Keys. I wanted Pera to win! I kind of feel sort of forming a dislike for Keys! Kind of happy that Bertens did win after all, however!

imagine rooting for Bertens! :) I didn't have money on the line though, so my commiserations to you.

It was really a toss-up in the tiebreak. Bertens hit a couple on the line, and Keys missed a couple by an inch. Definitely could have gone either way.

In hindesight, Bertens was the play but my logic said otherwise.

Definitely a tossup in the third but still can’t believe that Keys failed to serve it out not once, but twice!

Very impressed with Görges.
I thought her recent spell of bad form would mean she'd be in a slump again, but this shows she's really become more consistent overall.
She just needs to transfer this attitude to the Slams.

First set Bertens 6-2. I'm not watching, is Goerges just exhausted? She won her prior match seemingly with less effort than Bertens, but of course had less of a break.

This probably raises the question of whether it's better to have a bigger break after a longer match or a smaller break after a shorter match.
Playing a final just a few moments after you've experienced the adrenaline high of winning a semifinal must be tough.
It doesn't give you the chance to digest and reboot.

I dunno about the level of returning Garbie has faced, but I'm impressed by her serving this tournament. A lot of serves are not coming back.

Muguruza's OC interactions with Sumyk continue to be painful and uncomfortable to watch. She seems to have such disdain for his advice most of the time, and then afterwards is so quick to credit him. She's too talented to be carrying all that dysfunctional player-coach baggage, but I guess in the end it didn't matter.

Nice to see her winning a non-slam tournament. She's quite lucky she didn't really need a forehand against Babos, but hopefully the string of match wins gives her some confidence heading into the clay.

I wish Garbiñe would recover her old FH in time for Roland Garros. It's been missing for two years.

This was an interesting semifinal, final in Charleston today! Could been in under the mystery and thriller category. Goerge had no interest after her match with Servastova drain her the will for the final match while it just emboldened Bertens to give 110% after what happen in the 3 setter with Keys. Bertens just had the right stuff in the final title match!

Wow,surprised how one sided that Charleston final was,but I'll let Goerges off the hook since she is smoking hot was probably fairly tired after a short turnaround

Of P level and above tournaments this year including Charleston, I opine that semifinals and Finals stages have been dominated by tactical rallyers vs ball strikers with the rallyers mainly coming out ahead. The legacy of 2012-2017 is the intelligence+run+gun player. The traditional understanding of style contrast is outdated, it is now between mindsets and skillsets.

I just amazed at how weak some of the top trier WTA tour players are. They need to be treated like drones; with exact strategies like hit it deeper beyond the service line and hit it a couple of inches more inside the sidelines, etc.. Also, they are so depressed during their match and they are in a quarters or semis. What the f*! That what they are striving to accomplish but they are so weak in the mind it is so sad to see them complaint during the match that they don't want to go on with the match. I understand Osaka; she was completely drained since she won Indian Wells and then went to Miami before coming on to play Charleston, so she has a good reason - a full month of constantly playing matches!

how does supposed injured Kiki win this whole thing ? Fake injury perhaps ? she is learning from the master RAFA very well. maybe she trained at Nadal academy
Have you seen the size of her quads? Even if one leg was injured, she can more than compensate for it.
