Quite a decent field - all the top players who skipped Stanford are here except Kuzzy, due to injury. Who will win?

No Williams sisters unfortunately but there are some great potential matches early on such as Safina/Lisicki (2nd rd), Wozzy/Cirstea (2nd rd) and Akarenka/Sharapova (2nd rd).

If seedings hold the QF should look like;

Safina V Ivanovic
Wozniacki V Radwanska
-----------------------

Azarekna V Cibulkova
Petrova V Zvonareva

I think it could be Wozzy Vs Azarenka in the final, but im going with Wozzy as my pick. She has been Ms consistent all year.

EDIT: Is anybody able to add a poll to this thread please as I forgot to? Thanks.

Hmmm, I'm going to pick Lisicki to upset Safina!

A CWoz/Azarenka final would be pretty good IMO. Not sure who I would pick there.

2nd Round BATTLE OF THE SHRIEKERS!!

Sharapova vs Azarenka. Surprised no one mentioned it yet. I hope Vika whips Maria's arse!

Vaidisova loses first round again. Although Wickmayer is a strong player, the score was 6:1 6:1 in the end. Nicole you can do better.

Yeah, Vaidisova basically sucks now :)

She's getting bageled and breadsticked by girls who were, until recently, outside the top 100.

Heading to LA tomorrow!

They have site passes for all courts (no day matches on center court) for $20 bucks (after discount), tomorrow only. Hopefully, I'll see a couple good matches.

I may stick around for the two night matches, as well... if some good girls will be playing. I may even splurge for a courtside seat

Coco is up 5-4 and serving for the first set against Garbin

Coco takes set 1, 6-4 :)

Coco wins 6-4, 6-4... good win for her.

Yes go Coco! I saw her play Jankovic at last years Open on TV. She hits the ball hard! Then the day after the match i went to the Us Open and saw her walking around the grounds, and obviously noboday knew who she was. My sister quickly shouted "Coco!" and then Coco turned around really confused and my sister ran up and got her autograph

Man, had an awesome time watching some really good/interesting matches in LA.

The Zvonareva/Peng match went to a third set TB and Vera pulled it out 8-6 in 2 hours 20 minutes (or so)... it just ended a couple hours ago (about midnight) and I just walked in the door :)

Larcho De Britto is impressive in person... and her shrieking is not nearly as loud as it sounds on TV. I think they turn up the volume on the microphone or something. Cirstea made pretty quick work of her in 2 fairly close sets.

Also saw Stosur wipe the floor with Nicolescu :)... Stosur served 4 aces in one game!

Azarenka vs Sharapova tonight. Mute button will come in handy.

I expect Vika to win but i hope Masha prevails.

Notice Masha is going for a look similar to Vika's with the headgear these days.

Saw Kirilenko and Scheepers play one another, too... then saw Sugiyama and Hantuchova win their doubles match.... and then Ivanovic have some trouble with Vania King in the first night match. The Zvonareva/Peng match was definitely the best match of the day!

Kirilenko and Zvonareva are much more petite in person... and Hantuchova looks like she's losing weight, again.

Sharapova broken 1st service game. Vika up 1-0 early.

...And Sharapova breaks right back. Classic WTA tennis! :D

4 breaks in the 1st 4 games...wow.

Yes, sure was :)

I'm thinking about heading out there again tomorrow... but waiting for them to post the schedule of play for Thursday ... It's still not updated on the website.

Zheng Conquers World No.1

szdfo8.jpg

"LOS ANGELES, CA, USA - In Rome earlier this year, Zheng Jie nearly earned her second win over a reigning world No.1, leading Dinara Safina 5-2 in the third set before the Russian roared back to win. The drama was the same but the ending was much different at the LA Women's Tennis Championships on Thursday, as the Chinese upended the world No.1 in a nail-biter under the lights. ...

Zheng became the first Chinese ever to beat a reigning No.1 at Wimbledon last year, taking out Ana Ivanovic. She now has four Top 10 wins to her name."

iow ... the match that wont be shown is:
[10] F Pennetta (ITA) vs [2] V Zvonareva (RUS)

(shy vera might even prefer it that way)

Probably not... but perhaps, tomorrow! :)

I wanted to head up to LA to check out the quarters, but have to pick up a motorcycle... and probably won't have time.

Cirstea takes the first set 7/6 after blowing an initial 5/2 lead with a set point.

But I must say that Radwanska is generally outplaying her.

I have not seen too much of Cirstea before but A.Rad is making her look slow and amateur-ish at times.
