You are right about 2013 vs. 2012 for Serena. Based on past history, I didn't think Serena would get far in last year's French Open. This year, I believe she is the favorite. There is still the chance that she loses to a Razzano or a Kerber, but she has been much stronger mentally and seems much less susceptible to upsets this year. Even though historically she really has had very little success on red clay for 10 years, she seems like she can keep her unforced errors down and isn't having trouble with the more pusher-type players like she has had in the past on red clay. We'll see what happens, but I think this year she is the strong favorite. For those of you who are complaining about Sharapova quitting the Italian Open - I'm sure you said the same things about Serena last year - right? She was afraid of the Sharapova? I do have problems in general with players pulling out of tournaments over little things. The present tournament is the only one they are playing at the moment. There are many stakeholders who are harmed when someone drops out. Also, it was bad form for Sharapova to say she wasn't feeling well when she played Serena the last time.
