Good to see CiCi back out there. I hope her health problems are behind her. I guess we'll have to wait and see. She had such promise as a teen, and she just turned 21 this month. So many years missed.

She is into the quarters here, after beating Jessica Pegula in straight sets.

Now waiting for my fellow Canadian, Leylah, to step up against Shelby Rogers, for the 'opportunity' to face Serena!

^ Not real high-quality, but it’s something.

On TC in America, Shelby up 5-2.

I'm not in the US...so no TC, but thank you.
Based on comments online, it sounds like it's not a great match so far, with lots of errors from Leylah in the first set. Hopefully she can right the ship.

ETA: Oh....I found a way to connect through this. Thank you!

And Shelby takes it....Leylah just not consistent enough, and definitely overpowered.
Congrats to Shelby.

Coco smashing it. Sad that we will not see her against Serena.
Jabeur just collapse. I think Jabeur and Rybakina are the players that really get disadvantage by the Cov-19 as they are on the rise.

Ms Rogers comes across so well. Very personable.
I'm only really familiar with her name, not her ability.

I like that she doesn't seem remotely awed by Serena Williams and also doesn't overly gush. And doesn't speak like a vapid valley girl.

It remains to be seen if other younger players seem less intimidated by the legend of Williams rather than just playing the player rather than the name.

It was Williams' first loss to a player outside the WTA's top 100 since Virginie Razzano at 2012 Roland Garros.

Rogers looked worn down playing against Teichmann. Hit a ton of balls into the net. Great win against Serena though. Actually was smart, and did what I suggested, and hit some drop shots and short slices to Serena's backhand. A lob winner off one of those drop shots. Mixed it up well.... most importantly held serve. Must have read my posts here in TTW. :)

Serena s post match interview the same old, i.e my opponent played the match of her life, and I know I can play a lot better. :-(

I cdnt find a video of Williams' presser on the WTA site - lots of fluff interviews before she lost, but not afterwards.

I happened to catch it on Tennis Channel, about an hour or two after the match, when T.C replayed the highlights and presser. I find that behavior odd as Serena is usually one of the better players in giving the winning player a warm "congratulations" at the net when the match is over. Most (a lot) of the losing WTA players start their pouting as soon as the match is over....give the winning player a drop dead look. LOL

Jennifer Brady just overpower Gauf! Brady who has lost
considerable weight and is much faster and stronger now
moves better, faster then Gauf right now. Gauf is a step or two
slower too. Gauf had no chance with an opponent like that!
Good for Gauff too. Now the hype train will slow down and with it, will go the ridiculous weight of expectations imposed by people who were simply fishing for a 'great story'. It will take more time for Gauff to grow into her physical best and in the meantime she can also work on her forehand which is more of a redirecting shot than a weapon today. She already has a very good serve and is a natural volleyer.

I can't say she has a good serve with all those doubles. Her tennis IQ is amazing for someone her age. I wonder if she will make it to 6 feet. The entire week was a blast to watch.
