WTA week of 1/30; Thailand & Lyon 250s

USA women are racking up some titles this year. I think that's 3 plus the United Cup? Also Parks in the main draw at Linz.
 
Giving props to lesser known players?

Just watched the Hua Hin doubles final and Wu Fang-hsien was the sharpest player on the court. (Granted, Zhu Lin was probably tired from the singles final earlier.) I hadn't heard of her so I looked up her past results, and apparently she's been in good form since just June 2022 - 8 wins in 13 ITF doubles finals with 5 different partners, then the Hua Hin title with yet another partner.

Tsurenko really took it to Andreescu the match before and now,
Zhu turned the tables on Tsurenko.

I just watched the finals highlights.

they both look tired in the second set, neither can hold the serve, also the court was invaded by some insects, they were flying everywhere, I think it's the court lightning that attracted the bugs.
 
Alicia Parks - a very impressive performance from a very special player. Great serves, timing on shots off both sides and around the net. I don't recall when was the last time a wta player served 3 consecutive aces and displayed big serves to keep getting out of break points.

I hadn't heard of her but if she can play like this, it would be entertaining to watch.

That big second serve down the T by Alycia to save a set point in the first set tiebreak was crazy!!!! Then followed by an ace outwide!!!! That got her own set point and she did it!
 
Thankfully Alycia didn't roll her ankle when she fell on the first game of second set. Her right pinky finger was bleeding but otherwise she's good.
 
Alycia's mental strength is unbelievable. Facing so many breakpoints and she snuffed them out with aces and big serves! I hope she can do the same thing on a slower court though.

Incredibly, she also had no coaches and all her family and friends were sitting somewhere up in the stands where she couldn't even see them. It was her choice to avoid having them say anything to her during the match. This is refreshingly different from all the coaching and encouragement from the players box that you see on both the tours.
