WTA week of 1/6; Adelaide 500 & Hobart 250

Krueger having a stellar start to the year.

Made it to the Brisbane QF before losing to Polina Kudermetova. Hopped on a plane straight to play Adelaide qualifying where she beat Tomljanovic before losing to Siniakova.

She then gets into the main draw as a lucky loser, she beats Kostyuk 1R and now Badosa 2R in quite the thrilling match. Now in the QF she faces #1 seed Pegula.

A match against her doubles partner. She absolutely crushes the ball.

I was just about to post that Pegula if she can keep her head on straight can truly win a slam. I don’t see it for Navarro but JPeg can do it, especially with a good draw. Just needs to stop being damn inconsistent.

Her conditioning looks better this year

Classic Madison Keys, peaking the week or 2 before a slam but will inevitably fluff it. She has done this so many times:

2014: Wins Eastbourne 500. Loses Wimbledon 3R
2016: Wins Birmingham. Loses Wimbledon 4R.
2019: Wins Cincy 1000. Loses USO 4R
2020: Runner up in Brisbane. Loses AO 3R.
2022: Champ in Adelaide. Loses SF AO.
2023: Champ in Eastbourne. Loses Wimbledon QF.
2024: Champ in Strasbourg. Loses RG 3R.

Do you like watching Ons even though you don’t root for her as a personality? I’m not an Ons Jabeur fan either, but I still find her game entertaining.

Her racquetface talent, and her creativity in points can be jaw-dropping. I never find myself barracking for her but she can be really fun to watch imo.
Yes, I enjoy watching her play when she is putting in a genuine effort, and playing well.

That said, I don't think she is some sort of tennis genius. I think she is just willing to attempt more drop shots, and make better use of the slice than most players. Still very refreshing in the current WTA, but I prefer Muchova, who seems to have about the best tennis IQ on tour right now.

*Jabeur or Gauff shows emotion

Roby: That is off-putting!
Yeah, no. Never said that, but nice try. Showing emotion isn't bad thing by itself, but it's all about how and when you do it.

Yes Muchova is awesome.

Clicked the wrong link on FS, just happened to see this doubles SF in Hobart.

Kenin/Linette v. Niculescu/Stollar

That is quite the random foursome.

Also, the Yulia v. Shnaider match last night in Adelaide appears to have been pretty sick.

7-6(3), 6-7(9), 6-4 for Yulia in 3:14.

Was a great battle, I watched sets one and 2 and then turned off. Shanider has serious game and Poots well she's Poots.

Some week by Madison to make the final.

Beats:
1R: #16 Haddad Maia
2R: #17 Ostapenko
QF: #9 Kasatkina
SF: #26 Samsonova

Pegula far easier:
2R: #32 Sakkari (lucky loser)
QF: #54 Krueger (lucky loser)
SF: #25 Putintseva

So #20 Keys v #7 Pegula for the title.

So happy for Madison Keys! She's hitting it big!!!

What Yonex racquet model is she using? Awesome colours combination. Black frame, blue head guard, purplish string and dampener and overgrip.

Mammoth week for Keys to win her 9th career title.

Beats:
1R: #16 Haddad Maia
2R: #17 Ostapenko
QF: #9 Kasatkina
SF: #26 Samsonova
Final: #7 Pegula

All top 30 players, 2 in the top 10. What a tournament.

A seventh career 500 title for Madi. Of her 9 titles, 7 are 500s and then just 1 250 and one Masters.
