That’s a lot of withdrawals. Pota injury didn’t look good again Rybakina, so not surprising on that one.
Agree. Potapova has hurt herself in the Brisbane event. I hope its a soreness issue thag she can recover from in time for AO.

Those crazy last 2 days she had at Brisbane international I think she played something like 9 hours of tennis and three matches in a period of 26 hours being in the doubles and singles tournament.

Well, we have our first WTA-special of the year. Yulia wins with this beauty of a scoreline...

0-6, 7-5, 7-6(4)
Almost an exact reverse replica of her epic against Trevisan last year o_O

Martina Trevisan d. Yulia Putintseva 0-6, 7-6, 7-6

She gets involved in so many epics and she loses a lot of them so probably deserves to get over the line in one.

Puts in boots might be done. She’s been struggling lately.
I know she came back to win her last match, but she has indeed been struggling for a while, which is a shame. She’s such a character.

Her match against Collins at the AO a few years ago was insane and amazing. One of the most entertaining WTA matches I’ve ever seen.

This is the week where half the players don't mind an R1 loss. Most just want a bit more match play then to head to Melbourne. Many players are getting 3 setters in and I'm sure this kind of event a week before a major is where they don't mind taking the L so much.

I know it was only a charity exhibition but does anyone have any news on the Osaka vs Raducanu charity match? I've read Osaka has pulled out and is to be replaced by Vekic, but I've also read somewhere else that Raducanu has pulled out too.

Besides the Vondrousova withdrawal, During the day session they bumped Cirstea vs Ostapenko out to court 1 instead of centre. They put on a fantastic show and it went to 3.

Australians are sports mad and parochial, and we want to see Australians playing, but not at the cost of bumping the best potential matches off centre court. I think they’ve made some dodgy over-parochial scheduling decisions so far.

There will definitely be some ticket holders that will be wondering why they paid for CC tickets.

Rough match for the Centre ticket holders.
Did Townsend get that spot because she happens to be on site? I noticed that the Queen of Tennis, Camila Giorgi, lost in the first round of qualifying as the #3 seed, and lower seeded players that lost in qualifying still ended up in the main draw. Is it because they at least won one round of qualifying? Or is it because Camilia already left for Melbourne? The latter seems more plausible to me, as the Queen doesn't seem to like hanging around after a loss.

NO and ER. No surprise.

Pegula pulls out the win. In theory this should be an easy run to the final looking at her draw but after that display, perhaps not. Faces the winner of the qualifier battle between Siniakova/Pavlyuchenkova next.

Pera who only got into the draw as a lucky loser is up a set on world #3 Pegula...
By my count, in Hobart, you have three players who lost in qualifiers that ended up in the main draw (Podoroska, Fruhvirtova and Tomova), with Tomova having won twice and now into the quarterfinals!

LL is lottery system based on seeds for those who lost in final qualifying round.

Rybakina through in straights. I don’t get why on earth she’s playing in Adelaide after winning in Brisbane. Seems like all she’s doing is jeopardising another great run in Melbourne but I hope I’m wrong.

Not sure the last time if ever a player has won 3 titles in the first 3 playable weeks of the year which is what Rybakina is basically looking at doing. Brisbane, Adelaide and then Aus Open.

Yeah, what is Rybakina doing? Ugh.
She's overplaying before the Australian Open. Terrible scheduling for a top player. I thought her team was more experienced in such things.

Rybakina has barely broken a sweat in both tournaments though. Have any of her matches lasted longer than 60-90 minutes?

As long she doesn't get embroiled in a marathon, she might be fine at her age.
Yeah. She's young and tall and never seems gassed. Strike while you're hot.

Teams need to start being punished for this doubles withdrawal crap.

Sasnovich/Siniakova give a walkover to Khichenok/Ostapenko in the QF only for Khichenok/Ostapenko to then give a walkover in the SF to Garcia/Mladenovic.

Haddad Maia/Townsend also got a walkover in the SF's thanks to top seeds Krejcikova/Siegemund giving a withdrawal.

So no SF's played and the doubles final in Adelaide will be Haddad Maia/Townsend v Garcia/Mladenovic.
