Wow, this is pretty surprising, actually. I know she has had a great year, but it seemed like her level picked up because she had the peace of mind to know it was her last push.
Seems strange that she would keep going, especially since her body seemed to be totally worn out by the US Open. Maybe she will player a slightly lighter schedule?
I'm actually thinking she decided to keep playing until she gets pregnant. It can take some time, so she might be there for a while...

That's outstanding matches compared to Osaka. Then again 500 vs 250. So it's expected I guess.

This was from August and it's actually gotten even worse for Kasatkina.
She's added a 3R in Beijing and a 3R in Wuhan. But she's also added another 500 final in Seoul and she's a set away from another 500 final here in Ningbo. Insanity that she's keeping her ranking from just 500s.

Yeah not even a SF or QF finish at a 1000 when there are many of them compared to GS is pretty awful. I think the WTA need to reconsider their 500 events, there are now so many the week before a GS and at quieter times in the schedule where top players don't want to travel to them. Ningbo suffered from a bunch of top withdrawals so perhaps it would have been more stacked given there are more events in Asia such as Tokyo.
Muchova has also retired so it'll be Kasatkina v Andreeva in the final.

SO many withdrawals from Tokyo including Andreeva who's about to play the final in Ningbo. Kasatkina is still entered.
Tauson out in final round of qualies to a Japanese player after losing in QF of Osaka a few days ago.
I am surprised Shibahara didn't get the WC, she's playing doubles but she's approaching top 100 in singles. Unless she's declined and just want to play doubles, I'm not sure why Tokyo organisers would give a WC to a British junior player. Maybe it's a sponsorship thing or connections. She will play Uchijima in R1 and could play Qinwen in R2. Hopefully that happens and we can get an idea of her level.

The Osaka final was just the 5th in WTA history between two qualifiers. First since Bogota in 2022.

Most likely a good agent. Mirra Andreeva was WC for Madrid when she was almost 16 (She was in the 300s so not 600s but it's 1000 event!) and it paid off.

She's #9 in the YEC race and now 200 points behind Navarro. Kasatkina is playing Tokyo whereas Navarro isn't. If we have a withdrawal from the YEC (such as Rybakina) I'm guessing Kasatkina could qualify if she plays the next 2 weeks for instance. Not sure why Navarro has no more events entered when she's first alternate for the YEC and looks like she could be caught by Kasatkina the next fortnight.

I don't exactly want to like Kasatkina as a person but she was so sweet to Mirra after the final that I'm practically forced to!

My predictions seem to go more often miss than hit, but I doubt Stojsavljevic (jeez, that is genuinely hard name to write correctly! ) will ever go very far. She has mainly succeeded in juniors because she is big and powerful but has little else worth advertising. At best she will have similar career than say Clara Tauson has had so far.

Oof, that sounds like an ugly match. 73 UE between the two of them, meaning 18 games’ worth of UEs. Those poor spectators - if any.

Just watched the Ningbo final on DVR. That was a match of massive momentum switches. Kasatkina wins the first set 6-0 and adds a 7th straight game to go up 1-0 in the second. Andreeva wins 4 games in a row for a 4-1 lead in the second before Kasatkina wins 12 straight points to tie it up 4-4. Andreeva takes the next 5 games and leads 0-6, 6-4, 3-0. Kasatkina then wins the next 5 games in a row and takes the match 6-4 in the third.
Nah, did you see those hugs afterward? That was definitely long, warm, consoling hugs from both players at the net and at the trophy ceremony.

I thought she is shutting it down till the finals based on some Chinese comments. Her stock shot up like crazy in China. She must have tons of endorsements deals lined up during this period. Probably lots of engagement and photo shoots to attend lol.
wasnt shibahara still playing in the doubles final yesterday in Osaka? My guess is she does not want to completely abandon her doubles career where she is far more successful
