Dear Mark, if we only consider today's match, you are right.Let's keep what I said in context OK?
Here's the context:
"Except for a few wobbles at the end, Alex could easily have ended up winning this one.
There is not much between the two players. "
In today's match, there was not much between the players.
In overall success, there is a lot between the players, but I wasn't referring to that.
Sorry for the confusion.![]()
While talking strictly numbers we can go even further, A-drova had more winners, aces, the heck, she even won more points. And she still lost.
And this is what separates Iga from the field is her ability to win crucial points, break at crucial times, win crucial tiebreaks.
She has that intangible quality which at this point clearly separates her from her peers.
So even if the match was close, there was a lot between them today.
On the other issue, if you want to complain about her bad habits, you should also compliment her on her good habits, eg no grunting, always giving her best even when she was sick (yes, she is going through some cold, yesterday she was blowing her nose after every shot, you could see her red nose)
But to me the biggest thing of all is that other players like her, this by itself tells you something. Give her some slack.
