I wouldn’t say Pliskova is extremely injured. Her wrist is taped but not impacting her hitting aces and drop shots and all sorts. She’s worked her way into this match. Up 4-3 second set.

... and Naomi brought film maker to Oz so she better be good.
For someone who is supposedly shy and doesn't love attention, she sure does seek a lot of attention...
Doesn't look like UK coverage is going to get better anytime soon. We've gone from being able to watch any match on any court (Amazon), to having just one feed that covers both the ATP and the WTA (Sky). Anisimova's match got switched off halfway through so they could show Andy Murray. This is depressing and dismal.
Sorry to hear that you guys are dealing with that. I honestly can't imagine watching tennis these days and being forced into only viewing one match, and that match being selected by the broadcaster. I really love flicking through multiple matches and events, live, and catching bits of them all.
It will be an interesting 2024 if she can play a full season and not be hindered by injuries or layoffs.
Um, did you see Anisimova? She may have looked Ok against Pavs (who has been pretty terrible for about a year now), but I don't think she is doing much of anything anytime soon. She doesn't look particularly fit, or like her head is in a better place than it used to be. On that first point, I don't think the way her body has grown and matured has been good for her tennis. She was obviously lighter, quicker and more agile when she was younger and still developing. I hope Andreeva doesn't have the same problem, as right now she looks really promising.

Raducanu back with her first match is many months. So far she is not looking too bad playing against the 134th ranked Ruse of Romania.
See above. We shouldn't draw too many conclusions when some of these players get really weak opponents in their first matches back. Especially in Auckland, where Svitolina is the #2 seed for god's sake! Emma will get smacked around by the better competition, as she should.

Just gone to the outside courts and caught Ostapenko who is looking very fit and strong!
Wow, is it possible she is even more cute than before? Hopefully she has some decent attire this season.

Osaka looking fantastic. Will be a slam contender this year once again, US Open watch out.
Another one that is too early to call. Korpatch isn't a tour regular, and Pliskova couldn't even beat her sister last year.

Yeah, I'm referencing Sharapova - Vika feud.

Pliskova serve better than Naomi, that 2nd serve to get the set point wowza. We're heading to 3rd set now.

Pliskova breaks first in the 3rd. Osaka still looking good, understandable after 500+ days off tour. And Pliskova is no easy opponent.

Match not over but it’s going Pliskova’s way now.

Raducanu now in the Aussie main draw thanks to Lauren Davis pulling out. There's going to be some horrible early draws for the seeds..

Osaka, Raducanu, Fernandez, Pliskova, Andreeva, Collins, Giorgi, Burrage. I wouldn't want to draw any of them.

I'm just kidding with Burrage.

One player in the Brisbane tournament that I have never heard about: Julia Riera!?? She is facing my favorite miss Noskova next round and I'm expecting Linda to go forward at least from that round, but Mirra probably then stops the last year's surprise finalist.
Nice to have Emma and Amanda back on tour. And not nice to have that one greedy clown there, but at least Pliskova was still able to beat somebody! :D

Forget about anything else. Diane Parry put on a match of anthology against Lesia Tsurenko last night.
Would be great if she could get some big results this year, same with Burel. I feel the French have had a presence on tour with Garcia and Cornet especially but they're due some more players stepping up.

Well Camila couldn't pull it off, despite a break in the second a some good spells where she seemed to be in control. Ostapenko is as annoying as always, regularly questioning the line calls (and then playing it off when the replay shows balls that were well in). She's such a clown, and I think Giorgi was getting annoyed by her antics.

Wait, you are kidding with Burrage but not Raducanu? Emma is going nowhere.

6-2 6-1 for Andreeva over Samsonova! She will be so dangerous at the Aussie Open. Might be dangerous in this.
It seems like a strange match to take anything from, but when Andreeva played against that male player (1000 something in the ATP), she looked quite good. Sure, she still lost, but her movement and hitting seemed like a clear step forward from last year.

And after her first round match confirmed it, this result is a flat out statement to the rest of the tour. Her tennis looks really good (so much better than Gauff at the same age), and she is moving really well on top of it. The only question remaining is her mental strength, as she did show a tendency to melt down last year, and she is still just a kid. But if her head stays on straight, she should make the quarters of the AO at the least.
Nice to have Emma and Amanda back on tour. And not nice to have that one greedy clown there, but at least Pliskova was still able to beat somebody! :D
Wait, what? I'm not lover of Osaka's behavior, but are you seriously calling her greedy in the same sentence where you praise Raducanu? They have A LOT in common...

The Anisimova comeback tournament came to an end quite abruptly.
I said it after her first match. She beat Pavlychenkova, sure, but Pavs has been pretty bad lately, and Amanda hardly looked unstoppable. This comeback isn't going to be easy, and I wonder how she will respond if she gets dominated (like I expect)?

Forget about anything else. Diane Parry put on a match of anthology against Lesia Tsurenko last night.
Love watching Parry play. Classy, attractive woman with a game to match! Any one hander in the WTA should be protected under the endangered species act.

History on the line in the next match. 34 year old Aussie Arina Rodionova up against 16 year old Mira Andreeva

If Rodionova wins, she’ll become the oldest player to ever make their debut inside the top 100.

All I literally said was she's "not looking too bad". Don't have a heart attack but I'm going to let you know that she's even looking good in the first set vs. Svitolina.

^ From 5-2, but Svitolina stepped her game up afterwards and Emma got a bit hesitant. Really fun match to watch so far though!

I was watching at 5-1.

I only saw set 2 of Emma/Elina but it was a solid standard from both. Just a shame about those last few points. They were like nothing else in the set. Sadly I have to start work now, although my gut feeling is I'll be glad about that.
